Yes, you just don't hear about them. They committed to being open with the development process and that's why you get more of this kind of story - but you don't have to read it

I love this open style of development - also seen in other studies with some very effective games, that's not the reason for my disappointment with the game.

I just keep getting these email updates telling me, "It's coming, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming, IT'S COMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING, GET READYYYYYYYYY..... oh wait, hang on.... nope, sorry, bit of a glitch. Looks like a 2 month delay. Hang on. Stay there. Don't go. Here, spend a few hundred dollars more on the same ships but with different colours, while you wait.....".

I would really love to play this game, but it feels like It will never get released they just keep postponing it all the time, I do understand they want to get it right, but it is getting out of hand, in the meantime I will burn out in elite dangerous so I am afraid that when it finally releases I will be fed up with the genre

    Re: * Star Citizen *

There have been a couple delays but I don't get where this "it's never coming" attitude comes from there has been consistent and constant progress since day 1. The latest 'mini-PU' version has already overcome the biggest technical challenges facing the game and runs reasonably well(astonishingly well for an alpha IMHO). It's one of the most ambitious games ever, if you can't grasp that might take a few years, I'm really not sure what to say. For point of reference Fallout 4 was a 5+ year project.

How many people care? $110million and counting worth of people. Not many games can claim to have $100 million+ in pre-orders.

That's a slightly misleading statement. It was being designed as part of the shared projects at Bethesda 6 years before release, but only got exclusive/full team development from the middle of 2013. And that team is smaller than the count on SC

But it's also doubly pointless to compare Fallout 4 at all - it's a completely different type of game and built on well understood foundations.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

I wasn't aware of that Kal; at CES(or wherever it was they announced) they were trotting out the 5 year development line constantly. The fact that's a different, much simpler game and took many years was my point. I'd say Star Citizen is on well understood foundations too, it is cryengine after all.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

5ish year release cycle surely? Anyway, figures come from the tech rader/business insider interview with Todd Howard. What I mean is that they've been building fallout 4 like games on the same engine before, so the two year full development time isn't a huge surprise.

Yeah that's about what they operate on, the "5 years development" line just stuck in my head because he said about 10 times during the announce, my fallout fanboyism blinded me to the fact it was marketing fluff.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

Also Fallout 4 was built on an age old engine with the same framework (its a continuation really), star citizen maybe using the Cryengine but its so modified that its more like their engine + cryengine work . The most achievement was the relative physics, which hasnt been this before (in this scale ofc) where you have a vehicle with local gravity and positioning, most games have a moving vehicle but you cannot move inside (with multiple people) which is insanely complicated.

Cant wait for this game but people do seem to not full understand this isnt your average game in terms of dev time or scale so can get frustrated .

    Re: * Star Citizen *

Sorry to bump the thread, but are original Kickstarter backers going to get the "Squadron 42" content?

I sent my money to this project long ago and would be a bit peeved if they didn't in the end release all of the development content to us original backers. I understand it's now planned as a separate game?

    Thanks

Every time (that I am aware of) they've given a release date for even the smallest thing, they've missed it by quite a way.
Elite has missed some, but in many cases by mere hours, rather than the weeks or even months that SC seems to consistently return.
That, coupled with Chris Robert's rep of failed releases and feature creep, is what's got many people doubting.

So, seemingly, is their idea of release dates!!

As someone with a notable amount of money in this stake, as well as knowing people with as much as £30,000 pledged (yes, those ones are a little obsessive), all of whom have written that money off and stopped caring until the final release, I'd say that's not a particularly true measure of who still cares at this point in time...

I'm not sure, either... It says you'll get the "finished game", but they may well decide that means PU or S42 only... They'd be horrific to try that, but they still could very easily do so. Part of the risk you take, I guess...
It just means that having "RSI/SC Dev Team" on a CVs guarantees you'd never work in the industry ever again!

    Re: * Star Citizen *

I think you'll be fine with that early pledge. It's punishing the people who prefer the traditional approach of judging a game as it is out of the box rather than pre-orders. I'm one of those for the most part, so I'll just continue to do so - if either part isn't worth buying on its own I won't.
