More importantly, it's the players that are finding and reporting the bugs by raising tickets that are helping to move the game forward. I've raised a ticket, then found a resolution for my issues on the Frontier forums, updated my ticket to explain that I resolved the issue and how I resolved the issue and even then it took about 2 to 3 days for them to respond to and close my ticket.

t worked for over an hour today with only a couple of crashes!
Can't work out on galactic map which places I can dock?
The locations on the map are joined by blue lines. a solid line indicates a distance that can be covered in one jump, if you see a dotted line then that would indicated the need for multiple jumps. Jump to the end of the solid line, pull away from the sun and look at your galactic map, the next leg of your journey should now show as a solid line, select the next planet and hit your frameshift key, then assuming you have enough fuel you'll be able to jump if not you'll have to dock and buy some fuel first. You usually have enough fuel to jump three or four times without having to dock to buy more fuel.
Each location on the starmap will have a place where you can dock, as it's beta we are limited to docking on around 55 systems at the moment and then until you buy a ship with a longer range I think that's reduced even further, you can't see the spaceport on the star map you can only see the system it is part of. Jump to the system you want to travel to, then use the navigation menu to select the spaceport, ie on iBootis you can dock at Chango. The video I linked near the start of this thread shows the process from launch, jump, selecting the spaceport and docking there. For me it was a great place to get started.
Currently I am flying between Aulin and iBootis trading 4 tons at a time because that's all I can manage, but when I can afford to, which won't be long now, I'll stick gimballed pulse lasers on my sidewinder, run a couple more trading flights so that I have enough money to cover insurance and then go out to look for some combat experience. I am buying fish at iBootis to sell at Aulin and then buying Agri-Medicine to sell on the return journey. I wasted some cash and journeys experimenting with other combinations, but this route seems to be a good way to build capital quickly in the early stages.
I'm quite surprised that this topic hasn't come up yet, however it would be awesome to have some of the Hexus Elite: Dangerous players added to my friends list in game, if you'd like to be added post your in game user name. Mine is, predictably, KeyboardDemon.
I have now crossed the 20,000 credits barrier so ready to go for my first ship upgrade, just not really sure what I need to go for, I'm thinking about gimballed pulse lasers at 6,600 each, I have yet to see any action as I've been playing solo so that I can get used to the controls and also be in a position where I could have a reasonable fighting chance as I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 10 paces using fixed pulse lasers.
Which leads on to my next question, what upgrades have you guys gone for? and why?
Well after doing some iBootis/Aulin trading runs I eventually got some cash reserves and went for a burst laser on my Sidewinder alongside the pulse. It worked 'OK' and whilst chewing up Federation Fighters in the Eranin 2 conflict zone eventually got caught out and blew up. It's during this moment I didn't read the insurance screen properly, and when buying my Sidewinder back didn't click the button that buys your load out too. So I ended up with no weapons...
Quickly did a few more trading runs and ended up with enough cash to buy 'stuff'. Decided to buy an Eagle for a laugh - quite pleased with it. Still only 4 cargo slots, but flippin' heck it shifts, and turns like a beast. 3 front hard points too (only one comes with a laser to begin with), so can see this being a little more tasty in the scraps to a certain extent, just bare in mind that it's not as hardy as a Sidewinder. Gotta be a pay off somewhere I guess.
I want to work up to a Cobra Mk iii eventually for the nostalgia value more than anything else I guess, until then I want to work out the best loadout to put onto my sidewinder in order to save some cash by fighting in the conflict zones.
How we all getting on?
I tooled up the Eagle with a C2 Beam laser and two C2 Cannons. Nice combo that cleans up the Fed fighters pretty well. Eventually got enough cash together to get a Railgun. Bought it and equipped it... fired and and the whole ship shut down hahah! Not enough power
I have now got past the halfway mark to getting my Cobra, I'm still playing Solo as I have not added any friends to my Friend's list and don't want to lose everything to some idiot flying too fast in a spaceport, being destroyed by griefers or having what little cargo I can carry taken by pirates.
How do you set yourself an in-game name, I'm still on the randomly generated number they give you on first launch?
Also can we get a list of everyone's names, maybe we can arrange an evening to play together, and get some voice comms going?
Already had an evening playing with a friend. It's a fairly simple affair once you figure out how to do it:
Add either other as friends, one then creates a group, the others ask permission to join the group.
Once that's done go back to the main screen and go Online > Private group> Click group you wish to join.
However word of warning, the first player must launch the game (and be in the universe) before the others join, if you try and join the group game at the same time, the server doesn't know which server to connect you too, as there's no group member currently connected. Consequently you can end up in different shards until you've done a Jump to another system (at which point you sync accords to the forum notes). However best for 1 to launch, then the others to follows once the "host" player is in the game.
Another point to make the friends screen seemed very glitchy, showing us as offline when we were both defintely online. Once you've added friends, it's best to relaunch the game, as that seemed to solve the issue.

Check out this video guys, it is awesome.
Start by going to your commander profile papge at support Orerve net and log into your account, go to Commander Profile and enter that username that you would like.
This is from the Commander Profile page:
I did suggest that a few pages earlier, I am KeyboardDemon in game, send me an friend request and I'll add you.If you wish to change your in-game Commander name, as displayed to other players, please enter it below and then click Request Name Change.
Please Note: This is a reviewed process, and your name may be rejected and reverted to either a prior name or a default.
The following will not be accepted:
- Duplicates - the name you selected was already taken
- Profanities
- Non UTF-8 characters used
- Use of Elite/Frontier specific names (Jameson, Elite, Braben, etc)
- Names containing military ranks that may be applicable within the Elite universe
Excellent, that means we'll put you in charge.
Sounds simple enough, lol, famous last words.
*** edit *** Biscuit has been kind enough to set up a TeamSpeak server, details of which can be found here, this would be a valuable resource in playing online. @Biscuit: I hope you don't mind but I have created an Elite: Dangerous room.

Hi KB, added you. I'm very much a rookie and just learning the ins and outs at present. Know all the basics now, but only banked around 8000 credits. I'll either appear as a random number in the friends list or 'Robin Hoodie' Not sure what name to use as it won't allow cptwhite
i've never played before but having watched this video posted on RPS my interest is peaking. there's no way i'm paying £50 for a game that's a barebones beta in its current state but will definitely keep my eye on it
You appeared as Robin Hoodie, that user name made me lol.
I don't think you need to know that much to have fun with it, though with a few more trade runs you should be able to collect enough credits to upgrade your fixed pulse lasers to gimballed pulse lasers, these are less powerful (slightly) but more accurate so you should be hitting more things in battle.
I created an Elite Dangerous group as well but it will only let me name it after my user name so I couldn't call it Hexus, which is a shame, I'll look into it and see if there's anything I can do, it doesn't seem to mention anything about changing the name of the group here, unless I missed it.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
