Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan has stepped down following pressure to resign over faked photos of soldiers abusing an Iraqi prisoner.
The Queen's Lancashire Regiment earlier told a press conference the Mirror had to apologise for running the pictures and endangering British troops.
A statement from the Mirror said it had fallen victim to a "calculated and malicious hoax".
The Mirror board said it would be "inappropriate" for Morgan to continue.
In all honesty I think that this is the best possible outcome. As the BBC article states this would (and probably still will be) used as propaganda by Islamic fundamentalists and would end up costing lives. Not that I'm saying 'our boys' are 100% in the right and that the war is justified - in fact I don't even want to get into that argument - but at the end of the day it's something that needs to be very publicly proven to be false (unless it was real of course... but you know what I mean).

On the Morgan front, let's be clear, he didn't "step down", that would have implied honour and integrity. The board of Trinity Mirror potted him, and good for them. Good riddance.

Publishing those pictures was irresponsible in the extreme, even if they were real... Even though the authorities may prove completely and utterly to eventhe most hardened cynic's satisfaction that the pics are fake, the damage is done. There is no way to convince Iraqi people that they're fake... that little snot weasel has ruined EVERYTHING the British forces have achieved, and worse, he's has now endangered every one of them.
And for what?
To sell a few more papers.
Whether you believe on the war or not, whether you believe in our forces should be there or not, you can't deny that needlessly endangering our troops to sell papers is just bloody criminal.
He sold our troops out for a profit... lower that a snake's bum.
