My elected representatives are dealing with the problem on my behalf. IE The police and the UK government. So yes, infact, I am distancing myself from them through the democratic process. But thanks for asking!

Are the Police and UK government not also elected by muslims?
They certainly seem to be trying to protect us from extremists if you believe them.

To my knowledge football hooligans haven't yet flown any aircraft into tall buildings, beheaded random civilians and posted the videos on the internet, torched any embassies nor paraded through the streets demanding that people who disagree with them be butchered or beheaded. There is a question of scale and clubs and supporters groups do publicly distance themselves from the hooligan element.

The point is irrelevant given the scale of the issue at hand, between religious extremists and football hooligans.

One group are committed to imposing their way of life and belief system on another group with whatever means are at their disposal regardless of human cost. The others are football hooligans.

The issue is that given the scale the majority of peaceful individuals within Islam are not seen to be distancing themselves nor sending clear messages to the violent minority. There is no "not in my name" organisation that we routinely see when western groups strongly disagree with a line for example.

As is well known, Muslims in this country are a minority and a minority of (worldwide) Muslims live in this country. However, Muslims (as a group), even in this country, do not do enough to show the world that they are not a danger to the rest of us. Particularly the USA and its allies (of which the UK is a VERY strong ally).

I remember in the few days after 11/9/2002 seeing video footage of people, in predominantly Arabic states (of which the population is majority Muslim), dancing in the streets and singing and celebrating the downfall of the 'enemy'. This most certainly was NOT distancing themselves from the 'extremists' and it comes as no surprise that the entire Arab world is tarred with the same brush, given the scale of these celebrations.

I've heard some people talk crap in my time, on this board in particular, but I feel I have to say i've never seen anyone so unreservedly 'miss it' before. Or was that satire?

I'd rather not, but will say you've either glossed over or simply missed various fundamental facets that are central to any intelligent/informed discussion concerning this.

But they're very different, think of a Christian extremist, you picture a friendly man wearing a jumper and strumming a guitar because the bible teaches Christians to love everyone. Picture a muslim extremist and you think of someone shouting "death to US" waving an AK47 in the air and a bomb attached to their chest because the Qu'ran teaches about Jihad and encourages hatred.

My post was about how the Arabic world is seen by many and why those conclusions are drawn.
