Its a proof of concept so no need to dismiss it quite so quickly. It shows that en electic performance car is more than just a pipedream.

You didn't ask for anything other than speed , which I have provided.

hmm i'd disagree.. its not been shown that it can be built for a budget yet, so i'd say it doesnt demonstrate anything more than pipedreaming..

My concern about his comment was not that electric cars are not yet "exciting" or fast, but that, for some reason, they are to be associated with "invalids". What the hell is it got to to with being invalid?

Not only is it demeaning and degrading to say something like that, it also shows a luddite-style short termism with regards to peak oil and rising petrol prices.

Whilst I fully agree that electric cars are a step in the right direction, they arent quite in the state of development of petrol/diesel cars. I can see JC's comments as being rude and incorrect but I can also see the humour in what and how he said it...

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was refferring to the visual similarity between the vehicle shown on the program with this:

Which, incidentally is on the first result page from a Google image search for "Invalid Carriage"
You used to see shed loads of those on the roads in the late 80's.

    Peak Oil is scaremongering nonsense.

Global warming is the future, and causes range from pollution to over-fishing, but it's a natural change in the world around us, and a few hippies in western countries trying to stop it isn't going to do anything about it.

oh i know, and the trick is to pick up problems with prototypes, the weight of the car is one. So i compared it to the atom. (which i swear when i first fell in love with the kit car was only 18k).

Problem is, as anyone who's ever made a robot will tell you, electric motors cost a lot. And with these bad boys the problem is powering them. If they'd made a breakthrough that allowed a practical distance to be achived on a single charge, (due to motor improvements, NOT power source ones) i'd be impressed. As it is, its still not fun, you'd have to be worring about the battery status constantly because, due to their nature the fuel requirements of an electric motor aren't remotely similar to that of a petrol, petrol seams quite linear in comparison.

I just can't see why anyone can get upset by the comments made by clarkson.

and fyi, i'm not gay, but i would clarkson.

Oh dear. Someone else with their head in the sand. You think oil is a limitless resource, do you?

It depends what you mean by limitless. The only limit on available oil is economics. There are huge untapped reserves around the world. Africa is largely untapped, Alaska, Siberia, etc, all have vast tracts of oil. The reason we aren't tapping them is that it's not economically viable. Even in CONUS, with the current gas pricing, oil fields are being closed off as uneconomical. But, as demand increases and prices increase, it becomes more economical to explore and tap those fields. It also becomes more economical to develop alternative transport methods like invalid cars. It will reach the point where economics, not shortage, make invalid cars the mode of transport of choice in the western world. But there will still be loads of oil out there.

Peak Oil? Garbage. We reached peak oil in the 1960's.

interesting thread, the point about the oil economy/global warming is interesting, but the point about the car which DID look like a the blue invalid car was a bit of light hearted ammusment, it wasn't offensive or rude, it was a off cuff bit of tounge in cheek

nothing wrong with it. the world is too PC as it is at the moment.

You keep banging on about man made global warming and that its happening, yet have provided no evidence that its caused by man. In fact you have just ignored any questions that might challenge your beliefs.
So I bring to your attention again, in case you missed the questions the first time, can you answer this/answer my request?
    http://forums.hexus.net/showpost.php...4&postcount=27
and do you have any comments on the following?

I seriously doubt you have ever seen any proper unbaised evidence either for or against it.
Plus it seems you are exactily the kind of person Jeremy Clarkson likes to wind up
