How long does a refund take?

I returned a monitor last Friday morning to the Scan store in Bolton and have still not received my refund. I was told the money would be refunded back into my bank account as i paid using my Visa debit card. The payment was instant so i see no reason why my refund shouldn't also be instant. I know some companies take their time so they can get some interest from the money which i find wrong as it's MY money!... If this is not the case then why does it take so long? I can transfer any amount of money from my account to any other bank and i can do it instantly, so why can't you?

Was the monitor faulty? If so youd likely need to allow a little time for them to test it & confirm the fault.

I have a faulty motherboard being collected Friday and, rather than wait for the turn-around, have ordered a replacement due to arrive shortly. I'd expect no more than a week or so wait for my motherboard to get back to Scan, be tested & confirmed faulty (mouse fails in new UEFI BIOS and Lan port has failed) before finally getting the funds credited to my Credit Card. I expect I'll still end up a few pounds out of pocket as that's how things usually work out!

I'm not sure if it was faulty (poorly implemeted features maybe?), it's basically a crap screen that couldn't live up to it's advertised specs... I took it into the actual store and one guy checked it over and then sent me to another guy who printed out a refund receipt (who also told me it had been refunded back onto my card without actually asking for my card or bank details).

I wonder why it's taking this long? I can only assume Scan (like Paypal and a few other companies apparently) like to get as much interest out of 'floating' money which is technically not theirs.... Unless someone from Scan can give me another reason? Bank transfers in my experience have usually been pretty much instant.

Your monitor was refunded on the 31st May 2011. Refunds can taken up to 3-4 days to reach your account once processed, which is the same process in reverse for when payments are taken. We don't use the Paypal refund system, we use an on line payment system.

Refunded to where? It's not in my bank account

EDIT: Oh ok, so it will take 3-4 days from the 31st May (even though i was told i had been refunded on the 29th May when i was in the store).
