    Seriously Let Down By Scan.

I'll be honest, I am seriously annoyed with the way that scan have dealt with this situation.

I bought an Asus Commando and it had the well documented squeaking/whistling/high pitched buzzing noise.

Aparently you have tested it for 2 hours and cant hear any abnormal noises. I asked if you had tested at high FSB and you said no, and I explained that the higher the FSB, the more it whistles and buzzes. I have now been told that scan do not support overclocking of any kind (even though this board is sold and an overclocking board, and one of the selling points on the box is "superior overclocking") and as a result of that, they wont be able to refund me the money for it, and also, they are going to charge me £30+ vat for the pleasure.

This, to me is absolute nonsense. It is an overclocking board. It hasnt been modified, or made to do anything that it wasnt intended to do.

I can hear the whistling at stock speeds and it gets much louder as the fsb cranks up. I also bought another one from you, in good faith, in anticipation of receiving a refund for the other, as it had been received last thursday, but not showing as received until last night. The new one that I bought, also has the whistling noise.

Just so you know that I'm not making this up, here are a few other people with the same problem.

Here is a picture of what it says on the box.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

Mate, with all due respect, can you post in your own thread, I just want to get this sorted with as little distraction as possible. Thanks.

    Clunk,

I can assure you that the board is working fine at standard speeds no squeaking/whistling/high pitched buzzing noise can be heard coming from the board,

I understand the board is a "over clocking board" however this does not guarantee that the board will over clock to a defined level, over clocking in nature is hit and miss every board will over clock differently unfortunately it seems this board doesn’t over clock very well,

Unfortunately we can only guarantee the board at standard speeds.

Please PM me your returns number and I will see what I can do,

    Best Regards

    Breezey,

If you return a board back to scan saying that it will not post and the board posts what other option do we have......

    Regards

I am well aware of the nature of overclocking, that isnt the issue at all.

I am not miffed because the board cant hit xxx FSB at XXX volts, it is nothing like that, in fact, apart from the whistling, it worked fine.

However, it does have a manufacturing defect, which produces the whistling noise when under full load at moderate to high FSB.

The board is marketed as a "superior overclocking" board by the manufacturers (see above pic), at no point in the manual, on the box, on your website or on the Asus website, does it mention that making use of the in built features of this board will invalidate the warranty.

Personally, If you are going to wash your hands of anyone that buys any board that is marketed as an overclocking board, you should make it quite clear before buying that this is the case.

I wont be letting this go, and I wont be paying £30 plus vat either.

    Clunk,

I am going to get in touch with ASUS regarding this issue, as stated in my post "PM me your returns number" I have no intention of washing my hands of the issue and personally I can see your point,

Also no one has rejected your warranty....

    Leave the issue with me,

    Best Regards

Yes I know my point being im not trying to wash my hands of the issue,

All I ask is a chance to look into the issue before accusations of washing my hands of the issue or rejecting the warranty,

I am here to help you fella...

By "you", I meant scan, nothing personal. I will wait to see what Asus have to say.

Can I just say though, that whoever I spoke to on the phone, did say that I would have to go through Asus warranty myself, and that it wasnt covered by scan warranty. Not sure of his name, sounded southern.

    CLUNK

    For Example

If we sold you a CPU we all know that Intel Core2Duos are good for overclocking.

You decided to overclock it but it would not reach the clock speed you wanted so you sent it back to us for a refund

    Would you :-

1)Buy an advance replacement for the cpu knowing full well the cpu worked at stock speed?

2)Expect us to refund you for a cpu that works fine?

Overclocking is at you own risk and I know you know your stuff on hardware so you should understand that all hardware is not the same for overclocking and different cpu's and motherboards perform diffently under differnet circumstances. You have been a loyal customer in the past and also very helpful on Hesus especially the Scan forum so I think shouting out loud and acting the way you are is not going to solve any issues. Philip is looking into this for you I can assure you that and he will do his best to see what he can do but until then please calm down. Posting a picture of the "what is says on the box" is quite patronising really as I think we actually do know what we sell this is not the issue.

    Regards

Ok, you are completely missing the point. This is not a CPU we are talking about here. CPUs do not come with a box that claims that they are for overclocking. The Asus Commando is an overclocking motherboard. It is like comparing apples and oranges.

The problem with this board, isnt that it doesnt overclock well, it is the fact that it whistles under high fsb. The high FSB is just doing what the Commando board is designed for, and other people on here and elsewhere have this board at high FSB and it doesnt whistle/buzz (whatever you want to call it).

The picture of the box is a valid point. I'm not sure why you feel like I was patronising you, I certainly wasnt.

I havent been shouting, I have been direct and to the point and if you feel that this is inapropriate, then please feel free to close this thread.

Not wanting to take any sides on this but logically I'm with Clunk on this. If the board buzzes at stock then I'd personally not be happy with it, if as the product descriptions states on the box the board buzzes even louder when overclocked then clearly it's not fit for purpose.

The first link that Clunk gives shows a possible fix for the buzz, maybe Asus should be approached with their view on this, if they accept that the fix is indeed valid then clearly the mobo is not fit for purpose.
