Unhappy WD Hardrive from Scan - RMA issues with WD

    Hi,

I bought a 36Gb WD Raptor from scan a few years back and it now appears to have developed a fault. As the warranty is still valid with WD (5 years), I proceeded to RMA the drive through WD website. On the WD site is a serial number verification tool that checks the warranty status of your HD. I put in the serial number and was surprised to see that it comes up as "out of region". This is an issue! I can't return the drive to WD!!

As a secondary check I just tried putting in both my new 500gb WD drives that I bought from Scan two week ago, and guess what they both show up as "out of region"

Scan, please can you check out the issue - I have another 500gb WD drive purchased from another retailer and warranty checks out just fine!

    Many Thanks,

    Matt Smith

Re: WD Hardrive from Scan - RMA issues with WD

Send a email to WD RMA department to explain the situation, they generally can override the out of region and issue an RMA number for you. I did it for a couple WD drives I bought in USA a few years back.

Re: WD Hardrive from Scan - RMA issues with WD

    Hi Arthur,

Thanks for the info. I've just emailed WD and asked them what the situation is. I'm concerned that all the WD drives I've bought from Scan as showing up as "out of region", but the one I bought from another retailer comes up as warranty ok until xxx
    Thanks,

    Matt
