Intel Core i5-750 | MSI P55 GD65 | ATi X1900XT 512MB |
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz | Corsair TX 750W
it would. but ive been askin around and a certain known e-tailer is having 100 of the e8500 arrive tomorrow.... apparently.
TBH weather they come out now or next week it wont bother me as im not planning on getting one till march april time. reason is i am waiting on the new 9800gx2. i can get it now and just let it sit collecting dust or i could wait in april and maybe the price will be down by a bit. maybe sub £200?
OcUK seem to have secured "ample" stock of the 8400's or so they say for tommorow. Can Scan beat this??
Come on Steve I'm relying on Scan .

Bah
We've been waiting for answers all day
Why on earth was stock not already in the warehouse thats what I can't understand. Intels worst launch ever

Got a 1k order for whoever gets them in first, would like to order from the same place.
Perhaps I should have put my E8400 on eBay
Well the OCUK getting better clocking chips was meant to be a tad tongue in cheek ... though they will no doubt lay claim to this. Bit of a bummer of a launch by Intel though looks like the lack of competition is leading to them taking their customers for granted a touch.
no i think Intel is doing realy well. nvidia are worse because they have kept prices for there high end products static whilst intel have been dropping prices of even there quad core's left right and centre.
they could easily put a £300 tag on the q9450 seeing as there is no competition but they diddnt so give intel a brake. so what if u dont see your beloved new cpu's today. wait and be patient and it will arrive once companies such has scan get it
may be a stupid question but; would i get a better performance from a Q6600 than from the E8500?
for music production
It's pretty much impossible to tell be sure using your software. The quad has the advantage of four cores, but unless you're doing several fairly demanding things at once, or your software makes proper use of them, that won't give a significant advantage. On the other hand, pro media applications are ideally suited to performance gains from this and seem to be increasingly going down that route, so it may be that whatever you're using has been properly designed and optimised.
But, the E8500 has a 25% faster bus frequency (1333MHz as opposed to 1067MHz). Test reports I've seen suggest that the Wolfdales are between 0% and about 10% faster than the same nominal speed Conroes (i.e. dual core to dual core), depending on usage, and that they probably average about 5%-ish overall performance improvement ... at the same speed. But you're comparing 3GHz to 2.4GHz. So does the extra nominal speed compensate for only two cores? Dunno. But bear in mind it isn't just processor speed. With the bus at 1333 MHz, you've also increased memory bandwidth significantly.
So I'd guess that the E8500 is likely to give better performance, in terms of raw grunt, unless you either want to be doing multiple things at once, or your software uses the four cores effectively.
