    UPDATE: Speed Issues

The " speed " of the site should have dramatially increased.

    Please see for yourself

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

The speed of the site does seem to have improved just now which is great, the only othermajor issue I have is I can't filter my search specifically.

Arranging by price isn't as good as the old one but it's workable, but if i want to find a motherboard that has 2 ide channels, no on board sound and HDMI out all i can do is look at each board until I find the right one, are the advanced search filters due for a comeback because I use them probably more than anything else on the site and I'm sure a lot of your corperate customers must too.

Dunno if its just me either but the scan logo seems pretty small, and there is no other way to identify the fact its a scan website other than the teeny tiny logo, the logo is bigger every time a Scan staff member posts on hexus...literally.

Definately loving the speed fix though....

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

way too much scrolling needed to view product details and just in general it looks and feels bloated and oversized, i mean the tabs when looking at items for features/benefits are ruddy huge also why have the links at the right of the product pic they seem to serve little purpose especially as there is no back to the top button once followed

also hate the fact that the top menu is no more , was so easy to get to a specific product group now it ain't , infact say i want to view pentium D cpu's instead of 1 click it's now 3 and i'm sure i have to scroll more to see them when I'm on the right page aswell

too much bling and bloat not enough usability

Have you guys altered the heights??

Apart from the fact product information is still too low down, all the important info (login, quick add, track my parcel) and links now shows nicely on a single "page" @ 1680x1050

Slight change to the right-most menu will bring the lines up a bit further for most users...

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

The repeat comments about scrolling don't seem to have been added.

Anyway I'll repeat all the points I raised in the last thread and by others:

Usability: There are key problems with this on the new site, things are simply in the wrong order, content is key not fluff. Forcing users to scroll down two pages just to see the info they want is bonkers, this needs to be priority one on any and every website. Users are not there for anything except the content.

Design: It looks like a first attempt not a polished final design. There are lots of errors and bugs in the images and its far to image heavy. Yes more people are on broadband than ever, but that's no excuse for pages 1mb in total. The design itself doesn't look very professional it looks like not enough care or though went into it I'm afraid.

I'd like to be more positive, but I can't be really it's that bad. If this was a project of mine I simply wouldn't have launched with something looking like this.

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

What I find odd is now we have started to take the constructive points on board, one of which being the speed issue's, which has been brought up quite a few time's, which has now been resolved - I would have expected some positive feedback on this point at least .

Not that we don't appreciate all of the feedback we receive, I just guess it just proves the fact it is a lot easier to complain than to praise..

We are continuing to work hard on the site in the background guys..

    Best Regards

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

I've seen many sites change their look over the years and opinion is always mixed on first release. The difference here is that Scan are giving us the opportunity to improve the new layout etc. and I'm sure all will come good in the end.

Re: The New SCAN Web Site - What do you think?

just like to give an opinion on the front page, the image in the middle could be moved up to the top, to me it seems like its in my face all the time is very annoying(but may just be me).

Positive: Very easy to get to specialist types of hardware e.g. cards for gfx designers, this makes it easier to use .
The Site looks modern, although i perfer the old site(until i get used to this one ) i feel that this change is good, just takes time to adjust.
The parcel tracking is very good(so far i can tell, havent tried it with an order yet) which makes it much easier to check up on the item instead of going to history and copying the number then going to citylink etc.
Nice access to the support side of things, easier to see the times your phone support etc closes. Its also nice you added alot of information in that section, makes life much easier for people concered about their items etc.

Another positive ive noticed is that the popup menu on searches, that makes it much better to search as you can get a brief amount of info to see if you got the right product name etc. You also made it easier to change pages, might just be me but i used to all miss the next page button on the previous design, now i wont miss it

1 thing i can see at this time is that their is no option to change the amount of products displayed per page, some have large monitors and can then have more showed on a page, perhaps this could be implemented?. Sorry if i missed this on the site or its already been said.

Keep up the good work guys .

edit: just another picky thing from me , the home button is called computer hardware, might just be me but it took me a bit to realise that it was the home button , guess its not major but just thought id put it across.
