Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

Ok I got a new excuse to add to the list of failed deliveries by City Link.

Today was expecting a delivery of the HD (If your seen my other posting you know why I need the HD a.s.a.p) anyway so I'm sitting in the front room all day looking out the window waiting for the yellow van. Finally at 3:10pm I see the van turn in from the junction, so I get up and stand at the front door, thinking he's turning the van round cos there's nowhere to park (mothers picking up the kids in their cars) and he didn't drive into the bungalow entrance so he comes back and looks at me , I step out lifting my arm (as in I'm here type of thing) but has he's at the junction he drives off. So straight on the phone to city link to get in contact with the driver (oh I forgot to mention I changed my first line of address to phone number since that was their excuse last time) anyway first time the operator says oh its come up on screen cannot find property on internet search and my phone number has been mixed with bungalow name so not full telephone number, put on hold to see if driver can turn round to deliver today. It turns out within minutes the driver is out of my area (he must of put his foot to the pedal for that) so she retook my phone number and said it would be delivered tomorrow.

Seriously I have no problem with Scan (infact since I discovered them, earlier this year I only buy my pc parts thru them now) but is there a option to get stuff delivered by another company (strangely I have never had any problems with Parcel Force delivering, infact a couple of times deliveries before expected delivery date and once the delivery man stopped the van at the junction and shouted out the window he would be be making a delivery to me tomorrow.

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

thanks for the reply Paulm, I know its not Scan's fault but it just gets really frustrating time after time :S

here are what happen with my previous 3 orders from Scan:

9/10/2007 : had to collect from the depot

25/10/2007 : had to collect from the depot

5/2/2008: this is an interesting one. you might think that Citylink managed to deliver the goods for once but what happen was I saw the delivery van in uni area near my place. He was about to drive away in an opposite direction (to my place) but luckily I catch up just before he leave and got my package :S

I stopped order from Scan after this but decided to give it another go last week so it seems that nothing change after 7 months

    corrected, should be ok now

anyway, all the effort that Scan put into the new warehouse and quick despatch system have gone to waste really thanks to Citylink. My package was despatched within hours after I placed my order but I wont be able to get my hand on it until next week, that if I could get my friend to give me a lift to the depot

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

I have had varying experiences with delivery firms and as many people have said a bad delivery driver can be a nightmare. Some firms franchise out routes which can mean varying levels of service.

The best I heard of was my Brother in law whom opened his door to go to the shops and found a delivery driver about to post a card. Now this was for a package that had been outstanding for around a fortnight despite being "next day delivery". Cue 30 seconds of utter drivel as the driver tried to explain he didn't have the package but that it was normal procedure to leave a card saying no one was in.

When hearing the story from my Brother in Law I almost felt sorry for the driver as at this point my sister came to see who was at the door. My sister is small and usually very pleasant but, like many Scottish women, when she is mucked around takes on the persona of Hannibal Lecter.

She would not let him leave, phoned the depot and effectively said that if they were not getting their parcel, then they weren't getting their driver back. Technically it is kidnapping, but it did work.

The driver, a cup of tea later, was released after the depot assured her it would be despatched and the offending package was delivered 2 hours later.

One interesting side note was that the driver told them what he was expected to deliver on his route. It was such a tight schedule that time spent in the depot sorting deliveries was kept to a minimum. As a result it was quite common to leave parcels by mistake or due to depot error never be given them in the first place.

what a load of bollox, the drivers have to persoanlly check the loads on the van and tick off each customer on there list for the day before leaving the depot..

how do i know this ?
i have to go every morning to pick up my jobs for the day so i tend to find out most of there business.

saying that though i have seen them lose a box that weights about 30kg, 3 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet LOL

did the dodo hit the fan that day as its was 4 grands worth of printer.

Nah, you are quite right its all bollox as checking items off on a list is known to be an infallible method of preventing mistakes from occurring. Its tragic that more disasters in human history were not averted by employing check lists. Just think if the titanic crew had remembered their iceberg check-list then we would have not have had to suffer Celine Dion warbling away.

On a more serious note, how do they know what their jobs for the day are? They get a list issued and as you say check the items off. What if an item due to be delivered is is not listed? Actually Im not going to think about that one as it would totally destroy my faith in the power of the checklist.

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

rite, just got off the phone with Citylink. Basically the operator told me that apparently the delivery guy ran out of card last time he tried to card me but still put in the system as "carded" anyway. Just another excuse that they come up with since my friend was at home at the time they "attempted" to deliver. if he did went pass by my house (apparently they got my front door colour right) then he definitely did not stop to knock on the door

The package is loaded onto van for today delivery and the driver now has my mobile&landline number, let see if 3rd time is the charm, lol

if it isnt checked onto the van, or checked off the belt when the lorry has been it does not go out for delivery. and the sh** hits the fan if it was checked off the belt and has walked before its in the cage for van ##

that much stuffs walked from ilkeston depot theres a random security guard checking vans as they leave..
