Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

Well, I made my first order from Scan on Saturday (for a new HDD), I really wanted it for today so that I could re-format my PC (and setup RAID and Windows) before School started, but after waiting in all day for the magical yellow van to arrive, nothing did. Deliberately played no music etc so i'd here the door, and also had two other people in the house - but nothing came.

I check the City Link site:

Errr - WTF? I've ordered from retailers using City Link before and am used to the "yeah we carded you *shifty eyes*" routine, so throughout the day I checked if i'd been carded, but even after checking just now - I haven't been. At 4:21 all three of us were in

Great. No HDD. No card. Nowt

Now what? Do I have to drive about 25 miles to Ipswich and back again to pick my parcel up? Or will they try to deliver again? (I say try - but they didn't last time!)

    What do I do?

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

they will try and deliver again tomorrow...

but it definatly is common place for City Link to Ninja card...

i think my brother asks what colour the door was, and they say the big glass one.. (so he asks how they put the card through, and they say pushed it under, so he says it's a fire door... theres no way to push it under...)

but before this launches into a citylink debate, as the answer is always 'it depends on where abouts in the country you are'

Could be that they delivered to the wrong address. I would ring them up to confirm they have the right address.

My Dad buys well over £5k a year from eBuyer and in that time they've made about 3 successful deliveries so they probably do have the door colour on file.

I remember when we bought a new door, Dad took the old white one off at like 6 in the morning and spent the rest of the day waiting in the garage for them while doing odd-jobs to the new door - they "carded" him and told him he had a white door when he wasn't in. Errrrrr....

It's called "i forgot to put the package on the van this morning"

I've had the same occur to me - sometimes they'll turn up, card you and then bugger off (without knocking) or they'll just not turn up at all.

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

Also I was speaking to the (very good) contractor that sometimes delivers here and he recently had his areas re-assigned to him and had to cover one side of the county to the other, giving him time limited drops one side and back again! I say very good as he was always timely, polite and no other driver delivers boxes here so clean and un-squashed!!

Given this kind of job assignment planning (or lack thereof) by the admins I can see how some things might get left out. The CL admins should give more priority to route and drop/pickup order thus saving fuel and driver stress. With rising fuel price it will force out the contractor and result increased prices / decreased service for us all long term.

Of course saying that the one that did not deliver your package could just be unprofessional, but do consider generally they have a lot of pressure on them from the depot.

Aye. I've not had this problem at all with Scan but on 2 occasions City Link have failed delivery to my house (which isn't in the back of beyond).

One time they said they knocked on a green door, the second occasion on a white door.

    My door is black.

Seeing as they must have SatNav then there's no excuse other than it must be down to time constraints on the delivery driver.

As I say this wasn't through Scan.

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

Done that to me as well when they said they carded my delivery address and knocked on the door but nobody answered. Problem was the delivery address was my brother newspaper shop which is open from 6am until 9pm and was clearly by the delivery address given a shop. I think they do this when they have ran out of time for deliveries and don't want to get nailed off their boss for running out of time so they say they carded the address to make it look like they tried.

Re: Scan - City Link "Failed Delivery" - No Card, No Item, I Was In!

I've been carded also when my Wife was in all day. They must have forgotten to put it in the van.

If they don't card you it's probably that they, 1. haven't made it to you in time for good reason, 2. just want to finish for the day, 3. have been sciving off.

I would just prefer the truth and that I'll get the item the next day instead of getting all stressed out about being lied to. Oh well, it must be just part of the internal culture of Citylink. Admin don't trust Drivers and Drivers don't trust admin.

    Best Regards,
This was more of a "aaaaaaah rant!" thread than anything tbh.

I emailed Scan and got a reply back today saying I could have free shipping on my next order - which would be great if i didn't already get free delivery with Hexus

BTW - 4:32, just got in and no cards outside - I don't think it's come today either
