    Re: Using a different carrier?

I've just spoted another fringe benefit of the new carrier: you no longer than that silly CityLink banner splached across every item with cheap shipping! I really hope a DPD banner doesn't appear in it's place.

its on DPDs site aswell when you enter your tracking number but it is only after the truck has gone out so you cant say the day before you need to be in for a certain time

    Re: Using a different carrier?

Well that's better than nothing and a lot better than CityLink.
I've just ordered a load of stuff from Wickes and there should be an e-mail in the morning telling me when it will arrive.

Actually, CityLink could have speeded up its 'system' by e-mailing the 'We tried to deliver but you were out' card - save the driver having to be invisible!

No need for 1571, we never activated it here and still get the landline text service.

That sounds like a rather strange argument.

I am sure the local criminals know where the DPD depot is, and if they don't they can always order something (with a stolen credit card), and make sure they are not in so they get carded.

My local Citylink depot is good, and conviniently located, so when I was expecting a delevery from them, I would often stop off on the way home to collect it rather than going home for the card.

When I order from a company I have not used before, especaly if I know I won't be in, I sometimes find out which courier they use, and look up where the depot is. If it is miles away it is sometimes enough to make me reconsider my order.

    Re: Using a different carrier?

Not listing the depots is just needless consumer obstruction, something I expect more of companies like citylink than a supposedly reputable company, DPD.

As for the buying method though I agree, when buying I check if they use citylink first, and if they do, don't buy from them if I'm at my Essex address. No point buying something online when it's a 30 mile round trip to collect it.

    Re: Using a different carrier?

As for collections from the depot, we would vary rarely deliver parcel's to the depot to be collected by a customer, they must be delivered to the home address first before you are able to collect from the depot with ID, this is because the depot's don't have a lot of space to hold parcels for customer collection.

DPD has requested local depot's not to be listed so we won't list them.... their success rates are a lot, lot higher so there should be no need to collect from the depot as it's coming direct to your address and if your not home the card does have the local depot information on it.

This isn't anything to do with reputation or obstruction, it is to do with genuine security measures ... not full proof, but it DOES help.

Seems a few other online shops have made the switch to DPD too...

    I wonder what's going on?

    Re: Using a different carrier?

I hope the DPD driver knows how to find me (I work in a Hospital)! Most delivery folks, apart from City Link, drive around a few times, give up and bugger off . Or worse still give the item to some completely random person who signs for it and then it never sees the light of day as it disappears into oblivion forever!

I always felt safe having stuff delivered at work when ordering from Scan as the City Link guy knows who I am Let's hope DPD man doesn't let me down...

This is great news imo - City Link were the only thing that ever put me off ordering from Scan. Have dealt with DPD in the past - never had any problems

I didnt get an SMS window, but it was the day after implementation so maybe it wasnt doing it then?

I checked the site evening before but no window as you say, was finishing jobs downstairs waiting and they turned up in the morning, all good.
Forgot to check the hour slot that morning so cant say if it was right or not!
