    Can anyone help me???

Not sure this is the correct place to put this but here goes.

Purchased new components from Scan last week.

    Cors VS 2GB (2x1GB)DDR2 667Mhz
    Intel E6400 Core2Duo 2.13GHz
    512MB XFX 7950GT XT 570MHz
    Abit AB9-Pro S775
    Enermax 480W EG485AX-VHBGSFMA2

    Now the issue is: -

I am now getting rather strange issues when switching the PC on which are leading me to think that the GFX card could be faulty.
    1. From cold I switch on PC.
    2. on the Abit splash screen I get graphical distortion
    3. remaining BIOS screens are fine
    4. Windows splash screen has the same distortions
    5. just before windows would normally be loaded I get a BSOD, it is too quick to see the error
    6. on the reboot the distortions are again present but if I boot into safe mode it looks OK
    7. If i reboot from safe mode everything is then OK

Now I have thought about drivers but the drivers or a software issue but that would not be relevant during the Abit splash screen so I ruled that out. I have reseated the card with no effect. I thought about power but I also purchased a new PSU that should be more than enough. I also thought of cooling but this is only happening when booting from cold. Once it is up and running i can reboot and there are no more problems. I can also have the PC running for hours without any reoccurrances. I have checked all cables etc and ensured that there are no cables touching the GFX card or the main board.

    Unless its the Mobo!!!!

    Any ideas???

As you can see the issue goes away but I dont really want to keep a card that could potentially be faulty.

My first thought would be some sort of driver conflict, but then again im no expert, give our techical guys a ring and see what they suggest ..

Thanks, I have sent a message to them but as I am at work at the moment I will not be able to do any diagnostics with them.

My first thought was also drivers and in all honesty its not uncommon for the latest NVidia drivers to "cause issues". I will try to uninstall the drivers and maybe install the previous version but I dont think its a driver issue due to the point the issues arrise.

    Thanks anyway.

It may be a different driver other than the Display ones, maybe sound, modem something like that, other than that i can only think memory ..

See what the teccys say, they have more knowledge of these issues than i do,

Drivers are unlikely as you get corruption at the BIOS/Abit splash screen, if possible try a different power supply or graphics card (if you have a friend with similar parts or spare system).

Just a thought: have you tried flashing the BIOS? or checking the settings (most mobos have a 'safe mode' setting)

    Thanks for the help gents.

John - In all honesty I thought I am sure its not a driver issue for the reasons I gave above but I tried it anyway, I want to try all avenues before I raise an RMA as I have no other GFX card to use in the intrim and dont want to be without my PC for too long.

Redsky - yes I have done that already without any improvements

defo sounds like a borked graphics card.
best option would be to borrow one from a friend and try it.

me being the 'frined' now feels somewhat concerned about putting my working 7950GT in his dodgy build

Hmm, I have had a look around and I am starting to think there is a possibility that power is the cause.

Can anyone confirm that the PSU i am using would be sufficient for this setup. The details aof the system are: -

    Enermax 480W EG485AX-VHBGSFMA2

    Cors VS 2GB (2x1GB)DDR2 667Mhz
    Intel E6400 Core2Duo 2.13GHz
    512MB XFX 7950GT XT 570MHz
    Abit AB9-Pro S775
    120Gb and 250Gb SATA drives
    Asus DVDRW
