I agree, I'm ordering all components for my new system from SCAN apart from the RAM. Corsair is great RAM and usually cover all needs but in this instance I want a good overclocking PC6400 and feel there are better alternatives.

My point is if scan sold more then just corsair, then people like me and others wouldn't have to go elsewhere to shops like ocuk. Corsair sell top products but there are alternatives.
So in a nut shell its a case of we like ice cream but we also like flavours beyond vanilla?
i shall ask on Monday and see what i can find out and ill let you know accordingly.

But Walls icecream is the best...
LOL, It is like the ice cream kiosk on the beach in summer. One shop only sells walls ice cream. Another kiosk sells walls and ben and jerry's. The kiosk that sells
walls ice cream may be very popular and has excellent services but misses out on the selling of ben and jerry's ice cream and so loses potential customers. Now if they sold ben and jerry's ice cream, they would attract a lot more people to them as they are known for their excellent services. Thus making them richer!
Corsair is probably the best seller by quit a long way but there is still a market for the rest. And if scan sold varying ram brands it would make them the best place for ram imo.
I personlly think brand loyalty on ram is irrelevant.
They all all fabless, the all have the same chips to chose from, and in the past many did use the same chips. If you buy two sticks of the same brand/model 4 months apart theres a good chance they will be different chips, and may not work together. PCb does of course make some difference, but not even close to the amount of difference the chips themselves make.
If possible I would prefer to chose based on chip, which samsung chips being very near the top of my list. winbond would also be very near the top although long time since I bothered to read anything about ram, but the timings in the spec give a very good idea of how good the ram really is.
On my order I chose elixir branded ram, because the corsair value was out of stock, and performance is not important for the pc's i am using it in - although they were about the same price. The corsair is a lot better, since the timings are 2.5-3-3-7? vs 3-3-3-8.
It's not just the chips you're buying, you get corsairs lifetime warranty and awesome customer service.
The GeIL 6400 CAS4 stuff is considerably cheaper than the Corsair equivalent, so there's my example.
Other than a stick of cheap Corsair Value stuff (which is fine at stock in my HTPC), I do prefer other brands for any PC I build which isn't stock. Haven't bought any Corsair for quite a while.
Example #2: Corsair's not meant to work at all well with many DFI boards.
I do agree that RAM choice is the only weak area of the Scan shop, which is pretty well covered in every other category.
The RAM I will probably buy http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-002-CK
the RAM I would buy from scan http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=491422
which iyo is better?
I bought GeIL for my Core 2 system, and it's been flawless so far. Tbh, although Scan might find Corsair reliable, it's not like that company is alone in offering good RAM.
Broaden your horizons, you know you want to.
plus corsair has lifetime warranty, which i think is pretty amazing
As do GeIL, OCZ, G.Skill and Crucial (or 100% of the ones I checked)
