Corsair have been getting a lot of flak recently, if you check out many of the overclocking boards you'll see people saying they are not as good as they used to be, and sometimes, they are actually quite bad. Are they sponging of their past reputation? Who knows - but I am not going to risk spending £200 on them.

Hence why I too would prefer scan stock Gskill or Geil or Crucial etc

Personally, at the moment I am going to buy GSKIL to go with my next new build (if scan don't stock them I'll have to get them eleswhere).

Sorry scan but its true . It would be fantastic to see scan stocking other brands, and at the moment there are better alternatives than corsair being sold in other shops. as I have said 100 times already .

    I have to agree.
While the corsair stuff is good tyhey are not without their issues.
The ddr2 6400 is all bar the cas 3 stuff running on promos ic's, while these will run at ratted speeds they are not know for their overclocking ability.
Leaving anyone who wants to build an overclocking rig with you only left with the 8500 (micron).
£250 corsair or pay extra shipping and get £170 geil which may not as far as the corsair 8500 but @ £100 less is far better value.

Lets hope that the powers that be will come round to this idea

now everything i have read points to corsair not being great performers and every kit i have had has not been great

granted if you get it cheaper you have to say its good but lets be honest corsair is expensive and ocz geil patriot and mushkin give a lot better performance

and you would get a lot more memory sales if you had more lines as most of us that want high performance have to go elsewhere for our memory

otherwise scan is pretty good for its range

    which iyo is better?

read a web review on cellshock and in most reviews performance will around average for ddr2 not brilliant but held its own

the strange thing about the review was there were some mushkin and ocz that out performed everything and were cheaper and yet the reviewer gave the cellshock his 5 star rating (wonder how many gigs they gave him for that one )

I fully approve of only stocking choice selections, especially when SCAN has stock warehousing and picking issues.

Question is why do they stock so much fluff like scooters and the like? I'd rather have a selection of memory manufactures than that non-core business rubbish

But this is top-end premium RAM that costs the earth. No doubt that Corsair has a top-notch product here but the majority of enthusiasts are interested in midrange overclockable memory (2GB PC6400 @~£200), where Corsair is currently not nearly as competitive.

    Indeed.

For me Corsair has never delivered what the pricetag makes you assume you are getting.

I know that I have ordered RAM from Scan on 1 occasion, yet I have ordered countless motherboards, CPUs and GFX cards from them.....and for a good reason

Come on, stock a selection of BRANDED RAM that are cheaper then corsair.
    Main PC: Asus Rampage IV Extreme / 3960X@4.5GHz / Antec H1200 Pro / 32GB DDR3-1866 Quad Channel / Sapphire Fury X / Areca 1680 / 850W EVGA SuperNOVA Gold 2 / Corsair 600T / 2x Dell 3007 / 4 x 250GB SSD + 2 x 80GB SSD / 4 x 1TB HDD (RAID 10) / Windows 10 Pro, Yosemite & Ubuntu
    HTPC: AsRock Z77 Pro 4 / 3770K@4.2GHz / 24GB / GTX 1080 / SST-LC20 / Antec TP-550 / Hisense 65k5510 4K TV / HTC Vive / 2 x 240GB SSD + 12TB HDD Space / Race Seat / Logitech G29 / Win 10 Pro
    HTPC2: Asus AM1I-A / 5150 / 4GB / Corsair Force 3 240GB / Silverstone SST-ML05B + ST30SF / Samsung UE60H6200 TV / Windows 10 Pro

Ok that is fair enough that you give a link to how good corsair is but they are the best of the best RAM modules, super high end, world record RAM . I don't know about the majorty of people but I would never pay those prices for RAM. That is a minority of the market and does not give the whole picture of performance RAM. I would have thought that most people buy ddr2 800 RAM or sometimes ddr2 1000 purely as they want a good overclock but don't want to pay £300+. I don't think the links given were fair.
