    I know this is an old subject but I thought I should add about my recent development about play.com. I have also used play.com over the years with no problems until recently, well with play trade. Basically, a seller is on there offer HD dvd and normal dvd at good prices (which is nothing new). But what happens is this;

    1) Buy from play trade for the price shown, e.g £7.25
    2) They advertise that you get free derlivery and will be dispatched from the UK,
    3) The item arrives four days later,
    4) The item has infact been sent from HMV at the cost of £2.99 from Gurensey.

Result from play.com, "Nothing can really be done about it". Ok, the price difference is fortuntly not big but for every customer that get's conned by that amount, well it add's up. Any way, I though It would be best to chat with our friends at "Trading Standards".

According to the law, this is acutally ok to do. So I confirmed with trading standards by telling them this,

    1) I can advertise an item for sale on the website, e.g. a dvd player for say around £70,
    2) Buyer will buy at that price and I send it,
    3) However, the item is from ebay at the price of £20!

Even if the item has a reciept from ebay, there is nothing that buyer can do about it! Very shocking but these things happen. He said, there is nothing wrong as there is no law to prevent this. WOW , nows that's a way to earn profit but let me be honest, this is very upsetting to know that a company like play.com would allow this.

At the end of the day, I do not believe I would trust play trade again.

By the way, this website forum is very good, the information on here has helped me understand more about things.
Just to give you some feedback about this issue, I made another offical complaint via Play.com website under the option of "FairPlay Guarantee". I put on there about what I done, how I done it and what the outcome was from it.

After 3 - 4 days, an e-mail came from Play.com to tell me about what they intend to do about this issue and will let me know how it will be done. Given up with the bad service, I expected the usual template response of "Sorry cant help you" (you know what I mean) but this never arrived. Play.com told the seller to issue a refund of the difference back into my account.

Surprising but true, Play.com at the end came out tops with helping me. What a ride tho, to get the right thing done! So if any of you have this problem, just go through the "FairPlay Guarantee" and they will sort it out for you or try to

Out of around 20 orders I've had 2 problems:

Ordered a Monitor - Sent me a cheap netbook (<monitor)
Order COD4 - No serial key included - it was playtrade so not surprising.

Exclamation Re: anyone ever had problems ordering from play.com

    Hi there.

I'm a newbie, and would like to share my experience with Play.com.

I've been using the site for years now, and had never had any problems until a fortnight ago. In fact I've had a couple of orders go missing in the post, but these have been immediately replaced without charge.

Anyway, when I placed my last order, I received an e-mail telling me that my credit card (prepaid, rechargeable MasterCard) had been declined. I checked all the details (which have never changed since I began using this particular card; they are all 'saved' in my account), and also got the all-clear from my bank, but I continue ordering the same item, and continue to receive the same message. I have also phoned the Customer Support Team (expensive, seeing as I live in Italy and was put on hold for ages), but despite the reassurances of the guy I spoke to, my card is still declined. The situation seems permanently blocked.

I was wondering if anyone else has found themselves in a similar predicament. If so, how did you get out of it. I've never had any worries with Play.com until now and so am a bit reluctant to take my business elsewhere--particularly since they are the only English-speaking online traders who deliver free to Italy (apart from CD.WOW, whose stock is not as good). I really need to know what the problem actually is, and how to fix it.

Someone here seemed to think that the cause of the problem is the CVC2 code, which is used globally and not for each individual item purchased (does that make sense?), but I don't really understand. It is impossible to contact Play.com by e-mail without receiving an automated response in reply, and even when I wrote to PlayUsa.com hoping for assistance, all I got back was another automated response from Play.com.

Help me someone, if you can

    why is calling them expensive?

you should look at using some VoIP provider.

Call them, they've sorted any issues i've had in the past quite easily!

Still awaiting delivery of G25 wheel (as linked to in 'Current Bargains' a while back) - it's obviously been stolen (they don't used recorded/signed for delivery). Their courier, Home Delivery Network, said their driver left parcel 'under a blanket, under a table out front'. Funnily enough, we don't keep a table in our front garden, or a blanket. But Play won't do anything about it until 21 days(!) have elapsed in case it's still 'on the way'! (Not very likely when HDN tracking states 'parcel delivered' a week ago *sigh*

Pity they use Home Delivery Network: I've contacted them and now I reckon the driver misread '8' as '3' and so left parcel there. At the front of someone else's house. In front of a park where kids play everyday.

HDN don't require signature either. Now I have to go thru the interminable process of claiming a refund/replacement, which requires me to send a claim form (so I need to go out and buy some more printer paper as I've run out) and post it to Belfast. And wait, I suppose...

Meanwhile some scumbag on our estate has a brand new, expensive steering wheel to play with, not to mention whatever personal information about me and my account Play included with it.

    Thanks Play.com!

Re: anyone ever had problems ordering from play.com

I've had a very poor experience with Play.com. What's bad is not that a mistake gets made. That can happen. But the test of customer service is how the mistake is fixed.

    1. I order a Wacom tablet.
    2. Credit card refused (security check). Receive a note from Play asking me to fix this and reorder.
    3. I do the above, but in addition to my new order, Play push through the original, charging me twice.
    4. I ask that the duplicate not be sent out. They tell me it is too late and we agree a date for a courier to collect it.
    5. I waste a day when the courier does not turn up. Check communication with Play to confirm I made no mistake with the day. Needless to say there was no call or email explaining why they hadn't turned up.
    6. Next morning I complain to Play and explain that I cannot take another full day waiting for their courier. We agree a morning.
    7. I receive an email confirming the date and time, with the courier coming between 9 and 17.30. Again I phone and complain, as this was not agreed. Instead of trying to fix the problem they give me the courier number and ask me to fix the problem for them!! (Interesting approach. Get the customer to fix their partner problems!)
    8. I call the courier, who had never received the first request. We agree the date and the contact makes a special request for the time.
    9. The courier turns up a week early and it just happens my brother was in the house to give him the goods.

I don't know who was not telling the truth, the courier or the Play reps, but the courier customer service person listened, understood and responded. The Play responses were automatons. The number of times I heard or read, "We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused"!!

I'm responsible for training in a large company. A part of that is customer service training. This was a perfect example of how not to do it.

It really put me off Play.com. Big companies make mistakes, but the way it was dealt with makes me want to avoid them.

To top it all I wrote a complaint and received just the same kind of self-justificatory response ending with the anything-but-sincere, "Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you and thank you for your patience and valued custom"

It's always nice to be able to praise good service, but alas there was no chance here!

i suggest you take your trolling elsewhere. the only contribution i have seen you made in this thread today is an attempt to start a flame war. this is afterall the shopping and retail therapy section of the forums, if all you want to do is to complain about the PEOPLE who are whining about companies and not to complain or complement any companies or provide shopping assistance then is best that you return to your spot under the bridge.
