have to be careful - In March I pre-ordered a 1080p LCD and a WII game. The WII game arrived but was not one I ordered - so went through the returns process.
Then my credit card got charged for the pre-order TV. I phoned to ask about delivery as I hadn't received an email telling me. Ah, they said, we are getting delivery soon and to guarantee that you are in the first batch we took your money (remember that Play.com say they dont take payment until delivery!).
So a week goes by and I phone to say where is it and they say - oh we didnt actually get it yet and dont know yet when we will.
They were happy to refund the money but not if I wanted to remain in the queue.
So they took the money weeks ahead of delivery and so are simply disregarding the statements on their web site
So just be careful all

i'm never preordering from them...
they took like a week to deliver copies of the kane's wrath discs to people who had preordered them...
ive had one cd on order since 2005
their preordering system is stupid tho... with continually delayed dates (the nokia n800 at £129.99 was a good example of that, eventually came in about 3 months after their first estimated date!)
I've now had a Gainward Bliss Geforce 8800GT on order from Play since 7th February which is still in the status of 'order placed'. After a few days I rang their CS and was told by a lady there that it was unusual the order hadn't been processed due to plenty of stock in the warehouse but she would look into it and call me back within 3 days. I left it 5 days then decided to call back and see what had happened, someone with way too much bad attitude had decided to answer the phone then had a go at me for not waiting long enough to phone back. I politely told him I was expecting a call in 3 days and had waited 5 to which I was told to just try again next week instead then was promptly hung up on. I've had items lost in the post before and Play have been excellent in dealing with sending out replacement items but on this occasion I have been very disappointed.

i've never had any problems with play, and i have ordered alot 'o stuff from them, the only time things were slightly dodgey were when i preordered worms 3d ( ages ago) and they removed the stock from the website, so i just cancelled it.
I tried to order a monitor from play.com the other month and got an email the next day saying that my credit card had been declined.. so i cancelled the order and got one from somewhere else instead!
Play tends to deliver a couple days early(great when it's a new game) or a week late. Unfortunately, I seem to have fallen into the week late category this time
i've never had any issues with Play and normally use there services at least once or twice a month. However, I've only really bought smaller value items (CD's, games, books) and never any bigger ticket electronic items. Reading above, it looks like this tends to be where the problems mainly occur...
(edited to correct glaringly bad grammar )
I've ordered plenty from Play over the years and generally been more than happy with them getting stuff to me on time for release dates etc.
However, I ordered a PS3/GTA4 combo on Saturday along with a couple of other cheap items. On Monday the first item gets posted, the second is sat at Processing and the PS3 is still at 'Order Placed', I then noticed that a warning had come up on my Orders page saying 'Account declined' or similar, and had also been sent an email telling me this.
I recently moved house, so assumed there was an issue with using my previous billing address, so to check I phoned them up, and was essentially told I needed to fix my address. I was asked to answer some security questions and told to go amend my card address details as soon as I got off the phone to them, which I did.
The warning on the order page went away and I assumed everything was fine. I then received another email saying I would need to phone them up to answer some security questions since my card had been declined, I checked the site and the warning was back up again, so I phoned them again and basically had to explain everything again and go through the security questions once more, and told to leave it until the next day (today) by which time the orders would be processed.
Log on this morning and the second item was now shipped, but the card declined warning was still up and the PS3 was still sitting as 'Order placed'. Phoned up my bank to check everything was fine their end, and then phoned play again, basically to be told the same spiel again, and another security check only to get another email after asking me to phone them for a security check since my card was declined
I phoned Play to check on this, to be told that the item was now out of stock, so i will just have to keep checking the site until I see it back in stock and then phone them if it still doesnt get processed
Anyways, usually I'm perfectly happy with their service, but now that I'm hearing loads of people tell me how great GTA4 is it just adds to the frustration which is why I felt the need for this little rant, so please excuse me
Account rejected..
Email from play.com: "please phone us to do security check...."
Ok so i phone them...
Account rejected.. (AGAIN)
Is there any way to contact play.com via email? I cant find their email address on the site.. Because everytime I try contacting them by phone they put me on hold for about half an hour! They must hire about 1 guy to do it all by himself because they are ALWAYS busy.. (maybe with all the people phoning up to complain? )
I phoned them up yesterday.. after about 20 mins the guy answers.. i start to give him my details.. then he tells me his computer has just crashed.. puts me on hold for another 5 mins...
If they didnt have the best deal on the ps3 & gta4 (£284.99) then i would have cancelled this order ages ago. So far they are turning out to be one of the most useless websites ive shopped with..
After this order goes through (if it ever does that is! ... ) i'm definitely not using them again and would advise others not to unless its an unbeatable deal worth all the extra hassle.
And now while my account is still "rejected", what i ordered is now out of stock, even though it was IN STOCK when i ordered it 2 days ago.
I'm not surprised Play have rejected your account. In the first quote above your card was rejected. That's not Play's fault - they just process and get authorisation - if there was sufficient funds then you'd need to get in touch with your card issuer. Did you check with your issuer? Then you go and place another order, presumably with the same card? If that's the case and then, again, I'm not surprised Play are requesting additional information - perhaps it's at the request of your card issuer?
Granted, their customer support may have failed in this case (computers do crash as does the software - that's life!) but it sounds like it's more a problem with your card issuer than Play. I've spent well over a grand with them and apart from postal issues (not their fault and they've replaced any lost items without quibbling) I've not had any negative experience so far.
Your account is probably in "rejected" state to protect themselves and the card holder (which I assume is you - so no offence intended) from fraudulent activity. In any case, if you haven't done so already, get hold of your card issuer to find out why they stopped the initial transaction.
Well, as much as I was a bit annoyed at the hassle I had trying to get my card details sorted out earlier in the week, and then having the item go out of stock in the few days it took to sort it out, the item did come back into stock the next day, was shipped yesterday by ParcelForce and is currently sitting next to me on my desk at work, so all's well that ends well
I made another order last night with a different site (gameplay.co.uk) and its gone though with no problem at all, so my card is working fine atm.. so far its only play.com that seem to have a problem with it.. :/
I tried phoning them today, but gave up waiting on hold. Looked on their site for a contact email, couldnt see one anywhere.. thats not really good enough for a site like that, you should be able to easily contact them if you need to..
Hm, maybe try phoning at different times of the day. I must have phoned them 3 or 4 times last week, and got through with a couple of minutes each time. (Option 3 on the first menu, if memory serves).
