About time, Sony need to concentrate on bringing more exciting NEW games to the console rather than making old ones compatible. I haven't bought a game in months while my PS3 takes a back seat to my gaming pc whilst being used as a media centre, still a good console all in all, love the swappable hard drive feature.
To a certain extent i agree, but its a joy to play your classic PS2 games upscaled nicely on your PS3. Not sure if to get another "release" PS3 or the new slim one. At the same time playing amazing next gen games on the PS3 like Demons Souls does make it hard going back to playing some old PS2 games
I know if I had a PS3 I would have wanted some of the PS2's Final Fantasy games.
I guess PC is good if you fancy playing classics.
I imagine people with PS2 would have a massive catalouge of games they love. Shame they can not trade in their PS2 for money off the PS3. Odd.
Any first time buyers of Play Station would have had access to a large number of titles.
At the moment it would probably be more appealing to buy a PS2.
Some old games are better than new games that comes out.

The technology is already there in the "release" consoles, so doubtfull theres some great financial saving to be made. We've already had the shaft in Europe with software emulation and now its vanishing alltogether?! You hurt us Sony and we'll hurt you with lost sales. Should be milking the PS2 back catalogue of games, not giving people another reason not to ditch the old workhorse. Kinda makes you wonder if they actual want this thing to be a success at all?
It is bad considering the massive collection of classics that were on the PS2.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Definitely a shame. I have a lot of PS2 games that I like to revisit quite often. Games like the Ratchet & Clank series and GT3 & 4.
I can only afford so many new games so the result is that my PS3 does a lot more duty as a media player than a gaming console.
Ruling out backwards compatibilty won't make me buy any more games for the PS3. It just means it gets less use.
"Free speech includes not only the inoffensive but the irritating, the contentious, the eccentric, the heretical, the unwelcome and the provocative provided it does not tend to provoke violence. Freedom only to speak inoffensively is not worth having."
It is a shame.
There's many of us who like to play the older PS2 games every now and then. I for ocne would have loved to visit Kingdom Hearts 2 and Ace combat games.
wouldn't mind playing the PoP games of last gen, as well as ICO and S.O.T.C as those are just 5 games that come to mind that I should've apparently played, and I know I probably would've enjoyed.
So backwards compatibility would've been good to have imo, as long as it wasnt driving up the cost too much.
I still have a look at used Gamecube games from time to time to see if there are any cool things I missed out on. I was a damn fool the other month when I bought Timesplitters II for XBOX (as it was awesome in its day) only to find it was one of the non BC games on the XBOX (and pretty much most decent games worth going back for from the XBOX won't play on 360).
I'd of loved to have re-played "The Warriors" upscaled a bit from XBOX on my 360, but can't.
...and even the "apparently mediocre" ToeJam & Earl 3 that I completely forgot happened on the XBOX would've been hella cheap, and worth a try imo, but that too is not updated
Stupid move tbh.

I think it's more of shame that they won't even offer it as a software buy in. If they emulated it with the software then surely all it would take is a firmware update and a download to put it back?
What really grates me is that they never released the last PS2 outside Japan (the tiny one that didn't even need a power brick like the UK/US models) so we can't even get that.
