Hardware wise they are identical, it's a software setting (which will be hacked by the guys on XDA-Devs in pretty short order).

Once volumes are available and Vodaphone Uk have everything sorted out I suspect there will be a choice on Googles own store to buy a UK/European handset, with the software change and shipped from within Europe with taxes included.

Devicewire, Expansys and Play.com all have pages for it though. I still wouldn't be surprised to see it available from other retailers in due course.

Well unless the map people have changed their minds and let Google use the UK & EU map data? Would be great if so, shame to hold a great technology back from millions of people over such a petty thing:

Would be nice if it does have it in the UK (Google Voice as well may have issues?), I can't find anything well sourced that says it will though, only a couple UK places that are actually quoting engadget and similar which have only reviewed the US version.

We'll see, looks like no one from the UK/EU media has bothered to push Google on the question of whether they will reverse the decision for Nexus One - just parroting the US reports without bothering to research themselves...

HEXUS you could get a lot of traffic if you got to the bottom of this because looks like no one else has picked up on the issue when it comes to Nexus One.

My first ever smart phone...and I am ordering it without seeing it/feeling it and it is a SHED load of money for a phone (for me at least)...at least I can be the Hexus test bunny for ordering it, waiting for it to be delivered and any apps you guys want me to test.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't wait for it to come out on contract over here, unless of course you've already got one... A lot of money to shell out for something you might not even like... At least you should be okay selling it on if thats the case. Look forward to your impressions

Well..to be honest, I was talking to it. Well it wasn't exactly hard for my friend to "persuade" me.

If the contract is similar to what is being offered in the USA, then not my cup of tea. Still, I don't quite know what I'll really use this phone for as it seems to have ALOT of abilities.

Anyhow, first fail so far in purchasing the Nexus One; card was declined...even though there is over £3400 of available credit on there. Trying to call the credit company at 11:30pm is...er...fun!

Update: well it was quite a good reason to block....at least from the CC side...I bought my friend her airline ticket last week (which is a few hundred squids) so it was highlighted as dubious. So should be unblocked in a few minutes and I can try and re-process the order.

Hmm..email says they have charged and fulfilled the order but it's yet to hit my online statement. I'll find out tomorrow morning any news.

Still no change of play after a few hours kip and a few hours at work (about 12 hours). Apparently google are "retrying payment"...whatever that is supposed to mean.
