    Re: Desire HD

I have read a lot of reports on those extended batterys actually having worse up time than the regular batteries. Dont think the quality is up to scratch!

Might be better getting a dock with a spare battery charger and getting a spare battery. I have the dock just not the battery yet, il be getting one when i start working on site in London next year!

    Re: Desire HD

Basically its a more upto date tweaked version of Android for your phone, however isntalling can invalidate your warranty, although you can flash back to a "stock" Rom so 9/10 they wouldnt even know you had flashed it.

    Ah right thanks.

My girlfriend has just got an iphone 4 and compared to my HD it seems to run smoother. Scrolling through the screens and scrolling within the web browser seem just that bit smoother but I don't see why as the HD has better specs. I've ticked the USB Debugging thing which I heard helps speed things up and I only have a picture as a background rather than a live background so I'm going to try the Revolution ROM in the hope that it helps.

My only concern is, I have to wipe the phone first, will I lose all the apps I've paid for? Also how do I backup all my contacts etc? Do I do it to my sd card or to my computer?

*Edit* Actually I'm not sure I'll try this, it sounds extremely difficult, the guide on xda-forums makes no sense to me whatsoever, there are too many terms I don't understand and I don't want to break my phone!

    Re: Desire HD

Do you have a gmail account? if so all your contacts etc will be backed upto that, also if you have a sense account it'll remember wifi stuff, theres also app brain which will reisntall all your apps.

If your not 100% sure, then dont do it, wouldnt wanna be responsible for you bricking your phone, best to just wait a bit until the next official update comes out and do it that way...

    !
The new system update for the DHD which has been available for a week now resolves this issue. The new update is version 2.1.1

Update improves camera and video quality and speed. Speaker volume seems better and phone battery improved because of better app management. Also phone is alot smoother.

There are tow down sides though to the update. There seems to be a glitch with SMS messages. The way to alerts you and also the contacts its claims they are from.
Also HTC sense seems to be flakey at best now.

I got the update a week or so ago and have noticed only a slight improvement in speed. I mean really, it's artificial, it's not lagging or anything, it's simpy just not as smooth as the iphone 4. To me it seems like it's the framerate in the scrolling or something. I downloaded Operamini and that scrolls incredibley smooth, however a lot of the pages (hexus included) render very messily so I end up using the stock one. THanks for the info anyway!

    Re: Desire HD

Have you tried Opera Mobile instead of mini?

Opera Mini uses Operas servers to load the page, they then send a rendered version to the browser to display. It's really meant for smaller screens and less capable handsets, but it is also very good at cutting your bandwidth usage as the ready rendered pages are a lot lighter than the original code.

Thanks, I'll give Opera Mobile a go then. I don't need to worry about data being on giffgaff

This wont of course be helped by using opera mini, but for example using the xda dev forums in normal mode is so slow! I'd expect better given the specs of the hd.
