Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Have you got any security/antivirus software installed? There are known problems with some versions - might be an idea to temporarily uninstall them.

See Information about programs that are known to experience a loss of functionality when they run on a Windows Vista Service Pack 1-based computer

It could easily be hardware drivers too though.

Dodgy versions of Vista might work for a while but I wouldn't be surprised if you found yourself locked out one morning..

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Man, I don't even get an error message when it won't install. It gets to 100% of Stage 3 or 3, then says it did not install and reverts back to how it was before I tried installing it. I'm not using any of the drivers listed above either. >.< Looks like I have some work to do...

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

I have just received SP1 notification through Windows Update and it installed great.
No problems.

I think its much better to wait until offered it rather than going for the install yourself.

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Here we go again!! Back to the days of not being able to install updates for many reasons! MS are even advising removing AV to get this rubbish piece of code installed. Vista, it is dead! There is no way any major organisation is going to take on this piece of garbage. Without large corporations migrating to Vista, it is doomed.

I would like to know if i can get refunded my £179 spent on Vista if MS support cant get it to install on my system!! In the UK we have a law that states anything not 'fit for purpose' should be refunded in full to the customer.

I have a MAC as well as Vista, MAC's are better more stable and for the main part, just work! I spend more time messing about trying to get things working, updating drivers and firmware on wireless access point because Vista 'doesnt work on these'

The days of MS are numbered, the Operating Systems get worse, more updates are required to fix them and lets face it! If SP1 for Vista takes over 2 hours to install on a Dual Core 3Ghz machine they are pretty much replacing the entire O/S! Did they get the whole thing wrong on day one? Bill great option, step down before the **** hits the fan.

-1 troll.

Have you approached Microsoft Support? If you bought a retail license (which I'm guessing is the case if you spent £179) you're entitled to support from them. What are your symptoms? Any error codes? Or are you just hear to moan, and don't want any help?

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

i had the same issues just tried to install, got to the end and sat there for ages and reverted. Ive got more than one machine put the hd on a different motherboard it installed ok.

I know its something related to drivers as ive got an sb audigy and tv card and anything else i can stuff in my main machine.

even if you run the checker it comes back with nothing as does the logging option.

Microsoft said to reinstall from scratch

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Seeing as this thread got bumped, and I never put up an update...

I got SP1 installed long ago; after being on tech support with MS for a long while, we figured out something important must have been corrupted (or some such), and a full reinstall was due. So I formatted, reinstalled, got all the Windows Updates (and installed my newer drivers), and when SP1 came up in WU, it installed without issue. ^_^ But thats ancient history now.
