    vista 64bit or xp 32bit?

Well ive had xp for awhile now but i can afford to get vista soon, is it worth getting it? im havent had issues with xp yet but wanted to try out vista soon. if i did get vista would it be wise to get another 2gb of ram? I mainly play games on my pc so thats the main issue.

Re: vista 64bit or xp 32bit?

Is there anything you need 4gb RAM for? If yes, get Vista 64

Otherwise it's not worth buying Vista 64 when you already have a working OS.

Re: vista 64bit or xp 32bit?

Download the Vista evaluation if you want to try it out. If your machine has 4GB or more, you wont have much of a choice. With games starting to munch that much RAM already it's a good a time as any to make the plunge.

ram cheap, lots of RAM good for vista (it uses it for caching). If you're inclined to go Vista then 64 is the only way to go IMHO.

Re: vista 64bit or xp 32bit?

you can still get 3.25gb of that 4 in xp. but if you really need 4 then go vista. i really wish there was an xp os like vista but without the theme/looks and x64. dunno just vista doesn't feel/look nice to use
I never get tired of a bliss wallpaper on a fresh xp install.

    One question:

Do you have any need to get Vista yet?

If you don't actually need it, there's no real point getting it yet.

thats basicly what im asking , i have the money todo so but would like to know if its worth it. I only have 2gb at the moment but may upgrade it to 4gb sometime, still useful for getting 4gb just for futureproofing for xp?

The only benefit i see with vista is dx10 but there are lots of hacks for dx10 on xp.

Futureproofing XP is an oxymoron. You could do worse than spending £65 on Vista OEM Home Premium.

Re: vista 64bit or xp 32bit?

That's what I did. I stuck an extra 2gb in for the day I actually do bother getting Vista. Personally I can't see any good reason to fork over for it yet though.

You could, though not spending it would be even better

Nope - not at all. Perhaps you're thinking of the hacks for crysis that enabled some DX10-only features (they were just turned off on DX9)? XP will never see DX10 - end of story.
Vista's a really nice OS - not a perfect one (but then, neither is XP) - but I suggest that it's better to play around yourself than listen to me or anyone else.

The only problem with that is that you have to pay for and install it in order to have a play around!

IMHO if you've got the money burning a hole in your pocket and you go out and get it you won't be sorry. If you don't get it you'll be (at least) £65 up and not be any worse off in OS terms.

daft really - given you can effectively trial it if you'd got the media.

Will it run dx10? Yes. But it'll probably ship with something even later like DirectX 11.
