Using front panel audio as well as onboard?

Well i swear i was able to do this before where you use the front plugs for say skype for mic/headset and then the other onboard/sound cards for speakers. I cant seem to use the front panel seperatly from my speakers unless i use my creative sound card aswell but its still very anoying.

    Any idea?

If you have Realtek Sound Card when you plugin your headphone then on the right hand side of the audio control panel a icon highlights (Probably Green) you can then double click on that and choose whether you want to mute your main speakers while you have this connected or have them separate.
