do you use win 7 at home? is it free? do i have to be a member on MS and wait for a beta key or is a there a simple download link i can use to download it? i might test it when i eventually buy a 1TB hdd for my i7 pc as right now i am really strapped for disk space atm. i had to buy a 50pack blank dvd's to back up some of my stuff to make room for more! lol.

whats good about win 7 compared to vista? is it quicker to load? does all 64bit vista drivers work under win 7?

Does all games work under win 7?

The public beta - 7000 - costs nothing and anyone can get beta keys. You can't download it officially from MS anymore (they had a cut off date) but i'm sure it's out there..

It's much quicker for me - vista drivers do work but display drivers are the special case because to be fully win7 compliant they have to have the latest WDDM 1.1 component. I don't game on 7 currently - i'm using it purely for business and surfing etc. It's currently on my work pc, my old laptop and my aspire one (specs below). I'd wait for the public RC now though because newer builds are much better than the beta was.

    Hello,
everything that works on vista should work with windows 7.
i used vista drivers for all my hardware before the windows 7 beta ones came out and they worked fine.
its quite alot faster overall. including using and boottime and shutdown.
there is quite alot of under the hood stuff.
    such as trigger services.
before windows 7 services started at boottime and stayed on all the time wasting resourse even if not needed. for example the bluetooth service. all the time its looking for a bluetooth device.

with windows 7 only the needed services are started. if a service is no longer needed it is automatically stopped freeing up resourses. so the blue tooth service wont start unless a bluetooth device is present. same for tablet service etc.

pretty much nothing has been left untouched. everything has had some adjustments.
for example settings used to be saved when you logged out. the problem is if you have a powercut or you get a bsod or something then the settings wont be saved.
the solution is to save the settings 30seconds after change. this is to so multiple settings can be saved in one go.

i do think that should the last one should of be implemented back in xp.

I had problems with the DRM for Football Manager 2009 whereby it wouldn't work. Barring that I had a pretty decent experience with it.

That said, the DRM issue was enough for me to go back to Vista.
