    Still going strong, the free version is now OpenSuSE, Novell have some involvement with it too I think.

    As for the hexus.net poll, I voted Ubuntu, 'cause I knew I wouldn't be running Win7 any time soon, and I was going to install 9.10 on my Laptop, so it won out for me, and I don't have a Mac, so OSX doesn't interest me at all.

    They released openSUSE 11.2 last month, I created a thread on this sub-forum about the release, nobody seemed interested.

    Very true but the poll only mentions Ubuntu 9.10 and no other distro release. There is OpenSUSE 11.2 that came out last month but that wasn't an option and the percentages of most Linux users aren't too fond of OpenSUSE or even Novell.

    Exactly my point above and I believe OpenSUSE to be the superior of Linux distros (at least when it comes to ease of use and base appearance).

    Agreed, but initial 'ease of use' gets over-shadowed by Novell's insane packaging policies, and wrangling with YaST/non-standard config conflicts. But I am glad they dropped SaX2, and I do like their installer.

    The same can be said for a lot of Linux. I can't say how many different software installation package types that there are: RPM, DEB and even some TAR.GZ that no person first introduced to Linux would know how to extract and install through a command line.

    Ease of use would completely fall under Windows. Doesn't take much to go to a store, buy software, insert the CD/DVD and away you go.

    I guess that's why Linux is so malware "free". Nobody knows how to install anything on Linux. JK

    Don't make me go off on one about FreeBSD's ports system...
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Then again once you get the basic idea installing stuff on linux is easier than windows and most of the time the programs you want will be in the distro repos or maybe a third party repo.

    open synaptec search for program X tick box and click install.
    I used to hate the idea of commandline but if I know what program i want to install I prefer commandline to install since it is quicker. sudo apt-get firefox is faster than using synaptec.

    ive done quite alot of distro hoping and am getting more used to the commandline slowly.

    so far my favourite distros are debian and fedora.
