For you peeps aint who seen that yet.
with this download it says only download if you intend to use on more than one pc as a A smaller, more appropriate download will be out soon.. why say 'appropriate' will we be installing more than we need by using this download?
Because if you're only installing on one PC, you only need the Service Pack components appropriate to that PC, so an install from WIndows Update'd probably be about 70-80MB as opposed to a full package which needs to be about 266MB - also WU can take account of whether you have all the fixes in SP1 etc, and not download them.
if i download the large file, will it be able to tell what i have and what i need, or will it whack the whole lot on?Originally Posted by nichomach
It'll do the usual version checking and install what's appropriate - the whole package means that poor Mr Sysadmin, driven batty by machines at different patch levels, can point the same SP package at them and whatever their patch level, it should work
i'm downloading this one any how and will just patch what i need on mine as and when
im getting it now from
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html
aparently its the official release and came out aug 9th
Is it alright to install this over SP1?
I think im right in thinking that the file on the microsoft website includes everything in SP1 too?
mines now installed and running
had some trouble with it,but its sorted now
I'm running SP2 just fine from a fresh non SP XP Home copy (legit!) so it's gone from Home straight to SP2. Runs absolutely fine (so far )
neowin have provided a guide on how to slipstream SP2 with your current windows disk. I dont think the disk they use is a SP1 integrated disk, but the original windows disk. Ne way the SP2 they are useing is the full 270meg version. Im giving it a go. Some one may find the guide useful.
PS. If its not OK to talk about slipstreaming could a mod delete/Edit the information above please
For the slipstream you need the network install file which i guess is what windows have up on their site at the moment!
Just like to point out that the InQ is running a story that SP2 causes problems with Zonealarm and P2P software ( wont allow multiple connections per-port that eg Bittorrent needs) Add this with problems with NAV and i'm staying away from this for a week. Next i'll be reading that spybot:S&D and ad-aware wont run under sp2. bloody stupid.
SP2 - stops ur firewall, stops ur AV and b0rks ur p2p. well that about makes he internet pointless to me! Whens the next windows update coming out? soon, huh?
Do you think when Jesus comes back..... he ever wants to see another cross.......? *{God bless you Bill}
