It wont stop your AV or your firewall, not the Symantec ones anyway, it falsely reports the status of the programs due to anti-tamper features in Symantec software.

Windows Update (v4) will have it Monday 16th, those using beta versions of SP2 (and hence Windows Update v5) should find it available now.

The link being circulated is actually the RTM release, I guess a Premier customer (or 500) leaked it.

I think im right in thinking that the file on the microsoft website includes everything in SP1 too?
Yes, just overkill - there are 2 flavours of SP2, the "upgrade" (for SP1 users) and the "full install" (for XP Gold users, network distribution and slipstreaming).
Either can be applied to an XP SP1 system.
Windows Update will give you the relevant download for your system.

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    Exclamation

    Folks,

I have just spent a good few minutes cleaning this thread up following a lot of arguing over the legality of transferring and reselling of XP licenses.

Firstly, this thread is about SP2 - talk about SP2 in it, or you're not on topic.

Secondly, windows licensing can be very complex, the legalities of which I am not claiming to comprehend. However some of the "reasons" provided for having a "legal" version of XP have been dubious in my opinion. There is no point in proving to anybody through an elaborate reasoning that your copy of XP is legal. There's no need to discuss such things in this thread, so let it end here and then there will be no more arguments.

    Thank you.

I've had Automatic Update switched on for about two weeks PLUS I've been checking Windows Update every day BUT the only thing that's happened is that the WU software has changed from v4 to v5.

The question is - when will XP Pro users get SP2 through WU/AU?
