    Standard Fonts

I know that when designing websites you have to use a "standard set" of fonts, that will produce the same effect on all machines/OSs (i'm using CSS here) but i'm not sure WHAT some standard fonts are.

    Could you guys help?

    Lucida Sans Unicode
    Tahoma
    Verdana

That's in order of the best imo

There really is no standard set, just fonts that the majority of users have installed.

    Arial
    Courier New
    Georgia
    Geneva
    Times New Roman
    Verdana

    Personally I like Trebuchet.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

    i personally avoid Verdana - http://www.xs4all.nl/~sbpoley/webmatters/verdana.html
Although that is THE WORST designed site ever, it has a point.

I tend to use 10px Arial as my default font, although Trebuchet MS is very nice it only came as standard since windows 2000. You could always set font to 'Trebuchet MS, Arial', that way you're covered if user x doesnt have it
