    WMP - 144k & 50% usage?

Just started using my new pc on a regular basis now, inc listening ot my music via WMP. Recently iv noticed WMP eats up a helluvalot of CPU & memory resources(more then usual), we are taking a min of 50k, and averaging 120k - 150k, enough to cause itself to lagg & jutter the music.

Our old PC never had this problem and WMP rarely went higher then 25k so somethings up. So far iv upgraded to the b2 of WMP 11 hopeing it would correct itself but so far no luck, it still sits there eating 100k+ memory and 50% CPU usage.

There are no plugins, and im running duel core 6300, gig ram, 7900GT etc, Xp patched up to the eyes.

Any idea what could be causing this? Its a nightmare when it comes to playing games & running it in the background.

    cheers guys.

edit: i dont plan on changing players, used WMP for too long to change & cba with the hassle of switching, but thanks for the would-be suggesions anyway.

    150K? That's miniscule...
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

not for me it isnt, old PC used to handle music fine at 22k. Minimised or in a 'low-fat' skin mode it eats up even more, bouncing off 220k and 50-60% CPU usage.

This causes the whole PC to lagg, making typing near impossible due to the delay, not yet tried it with any serious games like BF2 or Ut2k4 but the results cant be pritty.

Had to stop the music in order to type this reply.

edit: might not be the memory that causes the problems, could be the high CPU usage, but tbh i dont know which of these values is more important/causing the problem.

I used to get the same thing with WMP after version 9 or something, I used to love using it until it slowly started to lag over time and made playing games horrible at the same time. And that bluddy dumb lag where the player freezes for like 20 seconds after a new song has started, which is really annoying if you really don't fancy listening to what's next.

As for me, I'm afraid I moved media player. I moved to iTunes, but it's upped like 2 or 3 versions to 6.something now, and now this is very laggy after the next track starts

As for my problem, although you stated you don't want to, I moved to another Media Player. Different ones always seem a bit crap at first because you aren't used to it but sometimes its simply better. I use Foobar2000 for my games media player which has extremely low usage, and good customizability (in terms of plug-ins, functionality, etc). I still use iTunes for normal music playing.

However since you use dual core, perhaps you can assign one core to WMP and another core to a game?

Hope you can perhaps find something useful out of all that!

To be clear, are we talking 150,000k, or 150k?
