    Re: Rugby World Cup 2007

    Well where in the final

We have gone from the whipping boys with no chance of winning it to potentially the 1st team to retain the cup

Wasnt the prettiest of performances but once more the lads stood strong and came together as a team. THe french looked rattled from early on and we didnt take advantage of it but luckily they couldnt make home advantage count.

Johnnies kicking is a still a worry he needs to get some practising in so that we dont throw away so many easyish points in the final.

I hope its SA in the final cos I would love us to do one over then im revenge for the mauling they gave us in the group

Fantastic result, almost certainly it'll be SA in the final but nothing's been certain so far in this tournament.

    Re: Rugby World Cup 2007

Well Less than 3 hours to go now.

I have just been to tescos and bought a crate of carlsberg. I dont usually drink carlsberg but I had it in for the oz match and again the France match so Its become a superstition. Its also the beer I was drinking for the CL final in 2005

I`ll be pacing in front of the telly at my girlfriends house watching the match Kissing the rose everytime Johnny has a kick.

WE are gonna do this. Against all Odds we are gonna lift the cup and Rub it in the faces of the world that we are still the worlds best

as a Kiwi - all I can say, is thank Huey (or whatever the Aussie TMO's name was) fro that result.
you jokers would have been unbearable had you retained the cup.
As a southern hemisphere rugby supporter, I'm glad that the cup is going to it's true home, south of the equator
Bad luck england - the call on the try went against you, it was a messy game, and you were bloody successful at shutting down the SA offence, particularly habana - I only saw him touch the ball 3 times.
Interesting dynamic at times, especially since the SA government announced their diversification project, this means that we won't see most of the white SA players on the international scene again, along with White, as he's not black. (not kidding - that's why he's lost the job.) it's a real shame for rugby that he's got to go, but maybe the all blacks could use him.

It was a fair call by the video ref, I even said to the missus at the time that it was not a try, as an England supporter I seemed to be very lonely with that one though.

In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.

Not as unbearable as the Ausies would have been if they had have gone through. Having spent a lot of time down under, im always amazed at home much some of them moan about us poms, real chip on their shoulder for some reason.

Yeah, that famous city of Rugby down under where they invented lol. But yeah, it's the home now for sure. It's that we want to take it back now we have nothing left to cheer about in the football!

It was a try, but SA do deserve it though.

    Re: Rugby World Cup 2007

You know what? I've been extremely heartened by the attitude of the English players, they've been absolutely gentlemen in defeat.

So many others have been gloating (Welsh, Aussies or whatever) but all it does is emphasise their own lack of real history, competence, culture and pride.

I think twice now about cheering another home nation simply because of the attitudes of a good number of people over the various borders - "I support Wales and anyone playing against England!" as you can get on the t-shirts in Cardiff etc. I really supported Scotland against the Argentinians and was saddened when they lost.

Well, frankly, nuts to the lot of you; even in defeat our team have more pride and more worth than the rest of you gloaters put together and I want to thank you all - collectively - for showing us that fact. It makes me very proud indeed.

Anyway, I'd happily snog my way through assembled celebs if it helps England win. They can't hide for ever.

Incidentally, I always do my part for England by not watching them play during crucial matches. That also seems to help!

Considering the decisions wasn't made with freeze frame technology, why oh why the australian video offical couldn't communicate to the french tv people to get him freeze frame pictures, i'll never know.
But from the live real time footage I still don't see how you can make that call that it wasn't a try, especially even with the freeze frame shot i can clearly see 3mm of daylight under his foot.

Even with the try I still feel SA would have gone on to win, but it might have given us a bit more edge to try and edge out the game.

But saying that SA did deserve to win on the kicking and lineout play, anyone looking to win RWC in the future is going to have to look into securing this set of play in the knockout stages with much more certainty if they are going to overcome the big teams.

Best thing about the tourny for me was the french being beaten twice by the Argentines, god that must hurt

    Re: Rugby World Cup 2007

I wish they had shown this picture at the time - it's a good one (best one I've seen - maybe you're in the wrong job!!). It definitely clarifies the decision on not giving the try. At the time I definitely thought it was a try, the clip they showed on the telly definitely made it look like one! I honestly sat through the rest of the game thinking we'd been done ....... obviously not.

What a bunch of heroes this England rugby team proved to be
