    Re: Champions league Thread

Man that was good! I was so nervous during the second half, practically shaking!!

When Barca got their last free kick in the 96th minute and a chance to cross it in, I couldn't watch. So so relieved when the final whistle went.

It wasn't the prettiest match, but it did have some really good moments. Scholes' goal was awesome, but Tevez was our man of the match in my opinion - tireless right up until the last kick of the game, superstar!

My brother, lifelong Liverpool fan, sent me this message at full time:
"My worst nightmare has come true. Hope we lose tomorrow. Losing in the final would be too painful and I might not ever recover."
Either way, be it Chelsea or Liverpool, can't wait! Does anybody have any plans to watch the final anywhere? I was contemplating somewhere with giant screens setup outdoor (surely that'll happen?) but it's on a Wednesday evening so might not be feasible - bah!

    Re: Champions league Thread

prettyd ecent game, i wanted barca to win but nevermind. barca played exactly how arsenal played last season, passing the ball to the net. they hardly made a cross when they was in a good position and messi worked his ass off whilst the majority of the team especialy the midfield were lazy.

Henry should of started this game. i dont know why he diddnt, he would of posed a huge threat againts united.

Yet again ronaldo prooves to the majority of netural fans that he never shows up in big games againts big teams,. he hardly done anything in that game to merit him winning the PFA awards. TEVEZ was by far the best player for manu. he worked his socks off, chasing every ball within his grasp even if it was a lost cause and i admire him for that

    Re: Champions league Thread

Did anyone here think Nani played more for Barca than Man Utd?

    Tevez was outstanding last night.

It was a tragedy that Barca just seemed to be waiting for the 'perfect goal' rather than crossing early or trying to play a long ball, there was never any execution in the final third.

Henry and Gudjohnnsen (apologies for the spelling) should have started for Barca.

Infact, it wasn't Barca playing but more of Messi (when going forward).

Good game, good win by Utd, disappointing execution of play by Barca.

Lets see what tonight brings...Chelsea or Liverpool. I have a feeling Benetiz will finally get a win at Stamford Bridge.

    Re: Champions league Thread

Nani, in my opinion, is really struggling at the moment. He seems to be attempting to make a name for himself and as a result, isn't performing as well in the team as he should be.

There have been numerous occasions where he has had the opportunity to create goals for the team but opts to shoot himself. You'll see the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo going mad at him on more than one occasion - there was one instance where he did something similar and Ferguson subbed him off, he didn't play the next game either.

Nani seems a skilfull player, he has pace, good balance, two good feet, a good shot and plenty of strength. But, his decision making is dire. Rapid improvement needed.

As for tonight's game, I think Chelsea will win it - they only need a draw and an away win at Stamford Bridge is hard to come by. Saying that, I'd rather play Liverpool in the final than Chelsea, I'd fancy our chances a little better against Liverpool.

I have to agree, we have seen 1 or 2 flashes of brillance this season from NANI, however they have been few and far between, yes i think he has got "most" of what Ronaldo has but hes decision make is awful, alway going for the glory.

Having said that Ronaldo was exactly the same, i am happy with the 2 performance and i think barca playing with what looked like to imagination was due to the sheer had work from the UTD players and they should be praised for that,

I though Tevez in particular was awsome last night, he must have ran 10-11 miles last night and would even go as far as saying he was the main reason for us winning, he just never gave any of the barca players any time on the ball, there were other hard workers also but he stood out for me

Liverpool, Chelsea is a hard one to call

I hope Liverpool, not because i think that we would have an better chance against them but for the northwest football, and a better atmosphere.

But ..... I think chelsea may have to much at home for them.

but in truth i really dont care who we get ..

    Re: Champions league Thread

    Ahh well.
    I have another agenda now

I would like to see a Chelsea v Man-Yoo Final.

Arsenal, as massively remote as it is, can still pip the PL. If Those two are caught up in the European Cup then it increase that remote possibility just a tiny bit.

Regardless of whether its Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal, the fact remains, year in, year out, we always have all FOUR teams in the knock out stages. In fact, a Premier League team, whichever one it is, is more often thatn not in the Final aswell.

Can only be a good thing.

    -----------------------------------------------
I do feel Benitez plays a very dangerous game with Liverpool though.
They usually do well in the CL but their form in the Premier League leaves ALOT to be desired and it must be so frustrating year on year for Liverpool fans knowing that they wont challenge for the title (not a dig ......just a thing i have noticed).

Benitez sets his stall out to do well in Europe and nothing else. Sooner rather than later, a slip up in the Champoins League for them, coupled with poor form in the Premier League may result in them not qualifying.
Its just suprising that, if the Liverpool team is as good as many think, why they cannot perform or ever challenge for the league.

(Next year i believe only the top 3 qualify....correct me if im wrong though).

I am glad Chelsea went through and this is why:

a). Will be a better spectacle as i think Chelsea will play more attacking football v Manusa than Liverpool would.
b). Over the 2 legs, Chelsea just about were the better side.
c). Man Utd and Chelsea are the best 2 teams in the PL so are more deserving (hurts to say it but true).

Liverpools 'rub of the green' was not apparent in this tie and it showed. (you Pool fans now know how we feel...especially about not gettinga penalty)

Anyway..........heres hoping Utd and Chelsea forget about the PL

Gutted after the game but 3 semis in the last 4 years isnt bad.

The luck wasnt with us but these things happen sometimes.

A liverpool - United Final would have been a great match to have won but losing that would have been the worse feeling for the losers and give the winners bragging rights for years to come.

    Ah bugger.

Still, 3 Champions League finals in 4 years would have been a bit over the top for a team that seem incapable of challenging for their own domestic title.

I think it's fair to say that over the course of the 3 semis against Chelsea in those years, they've deserved at least 1 final out of us.

Chelsea dominated the first half, we were the better team in the second half, and they were the only one that was going to win in extra time (though the last couple of minutes were a bit edgy ). Pretty even tie over all. Damn you Riise.

    Re: Champions league Thread

Both teams last night should be credited for a cracking game, and a real nail-biting spectacle. Games between those two sides have been dull affairs in the past, but that one was a corker.

Rafa's attempts to wind-up The Drog may have backfired, he was well up for it and his goals were so well taken.

As Blitzen pointed out, the two best teams in the Premier League are in the final, and probably deservedly so. Really looking forward to the final now, gonna be a really tough one to call.
