    Re: Leopard

I'm really liking Quicklook also space is really cool, especially being able to drag between them And loving coverflow

All the new eye candy is quite cool although I have installed it on my Macbook and the whole thing seems a bit sluggish, anyone else found this? I'm having beachballing A LOT! I've only got 1GB RAM, was expecting it to run much slicker

Is it me or are the shadows getting bigger? They are starting to look a little stupid on the apps now :S I was suprised ProTools ran straight out of the box with no updates! Will install it on my workstation now I know PT works okey (my mac spends 90% of its time running that so )

But yeah - beachballing anyone? Also my network seems to be going a little weird :S

    G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
    MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD

    Re: Leopard

Yeah, I've noticed the beachballing, but it seems to be related to the OS rebuilding its caches. For instance, the first time you try to use 'Open With' on a document the ball spins for a while as the machine works out again which apps can handle that type of file. This doesn't appear subsequently.

The shadow of the foreground window is huge in relation to Tiger, it gives the desktop a far more noticeable 3D effect.

    Re: Leopard

i think i expected more tbh. also it was probably the most painful OS install i've ever done. i got the bsod then, couldn't do the fix as the files were read only so, had to repair permissions then re-run it. only to find airport dropped the connection every 30 seconds. i love osx, but what a hassle!

    Re: Leopard

Mine only took around 30mins to upgrade and went with no issues at all.

Possibly the easiest upgrade I've ever done.

Just started installing mine now. Doing an upgrade installation at the moment. Will let you know how it goes. Not really got many third party apps on there other than Photoshop CS2, Roxio Toast and Adium.

    Re: Leopard

Well that was a painless upgrade.

Very impressed at how quickly it installed, and the fact that everything "just works"

    Re: Leopard

I did a full wipe + install today, although i'm rather disapointed.

I *knew* it wasn't going to be much different, but I didnt expect it to actually feel just like a service pack..There are some benefits though so I guess my money isnt totally wasted.

Stacks are great - really useful for keeping the dock to a reasonable size and it does improve its usability somewhat.

The new dock is great too - when you dock it to the right as I have it anyway..I'm not keen on the new bottom one but the black semi-transparent side dock works really well, much slicker.

Finder - well its improved, but I hate the way they have gone for the iTunes 7 interface. Coverflow is totally pointless too.

Spaces - cool but ultimately i'll never use it. A cluttered desktop is what expose is for...

Time machine - Was expecting this to be useful but the fact that it needs a dedicated disk just makes it useless to me, I was hoping I could just give it a folder on my external HD but I guess not. I hear its UI is pretty but difficult to use too..

I do like the new black colour scheme though and the rounded edges to menus - however Apple have been a bit lazy with their menus as highlighting is broken (ie when you hover over a menu item it glows blue, but when you get to the bottom of the list [ie a rounded item] the blue bit is still horizontal..doesnt change shape to match the item. Pure laziness)

Not noticed any speed issues on my macbook (1.8ghz, 2gig ram) though, and all my apps are running fine

    Re: Leopard

    I've had a bit more of a play and I have some more thoughts;

Finder: A big improvement almost up with windows explorer at long last.
Dock: Don't like the new app's open bit, as it doesn't stand out enough.
Menubar: Why the heck does it need to be translucent?? And why can't I remove .Mac from it seeing as I don't use it.
iCal: Finally shows todays date yay!
Login screen: Can't stand the new background, but its easily replaced I believe.
System prefs: Much nicer and easier to use.
Stacks: Seem like a good thing, but I've not played too much.
Speed: Seems quicker than before in most tasks yay!

Overall I'd give it a B+ its an improvement, but there are a few minus points

    Re: Leopard

    My niggles are tiny.

    - I want to change my shortname, yet Leopard won't officially let me.
    - Why must I have 'Search For' in my Finder sidebar? I've removed the 'search for' variables yet still have an empty heading.

I've not seen anything of Stacks yet? How do you get them to work?

    Re: Leopard

Has anyone used FrontRow? One of my main gripes with it under Tiger is that it doesn't scale the fonts, so if you have a video title:

    Some file - File name - 1 of 19

You miss the end of the filename.....

Does Leopard scale the fonts to fit?

Not sure - I don't have a long filename - however Frontrow is 100% different it is like AppleTV now
