The long names now scroll in FrontRow
The long names now scroll in FrontRow
Oooh hadn't tried front row yet it looks good. Much better than before. Far more responsive.
I have one major problem with FrontRow, in that it used to control the programs in the background - and now it doesn't. Which is rubbish as if I come back to my computer iTunes is in a totally different state as FrontRow
I'm still having real speed problems :S most of my programs say they are taking up like 800-900MB VM and my VM file is upto 45GB, I'm sure thats not normal (well, not normal on Tiger as my other mac is nowhere near that bad). The beachballing thing seems to have persisted for me
G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD
Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512
Mine seems much more responsive.
I used to get Beachballing in Safari quite a bit, but now, it's nippier than ever
meh, yeah, id give it a B. its good, but nothing as special as id have liked and the extra features have been marred by some really irritating changes...
New front row? don't like it. I used the old front row lots but the new one is less useful, 1. whats the point of using it if Apple reduces the font size so you can't read the screen from far away??
2. I loved the animation of switching from the desktop/frontrow. It was cool and it made all the PC users in the room go WOW.... now it just fades in/out.. crap.
3. why has its link with itunes gone? I used to dip between the desktop and frontrow frequently.. now i must restart the music EVERY TIME!! WHY OH WHY??
Cover flow is cool, but pointless..
The new ui theme is downright boring if not UGLY! you can have any colour you like so long as its gun metal grey. yawwwn
New dock is fine, stupid icons for the smart folders, but it looks nice.
Quicklook and time machine are awesome as well as the networked computers automatically appearing as sources in the side bar.. networking perfection.
It's very nippy, not having any of the beachballing as noted above..
well, yes. fairly satisfied but lamenting a few things just takes the taste away somewhat....

HTC Diamond, Cannon G9. Apple Unibody Macbook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz C2D, 256 9400GT,
Got it workin....
Just out of interest: to those referring to Leopard as a 'service pack' who wanted more, what would have satisfied you?
Obviously Leopard brings far more novelty to the table than the service packs XP has seen, and it's going to take time to learn all the changes (I've only just begun to look at the major overhaul of the Xcode interface). One of the things that really put me off Vista was that it was too different, with UI changes that made no sense and couldn't be reverted back to the Windows2k style that works so well. Personally, I'm glad that Leopard has retained the overall methodology I had just got used to in Tiger.
I think people who think its a revolution will be upset - don't get me wrong I love the refinements but I wouldn't call it a massive change
Mving a question from the bargain thread to its proper place.
Jon Siracusa has a proper explanation of this over in his Ars Technica review. The transition from 32 to 64bit on Mac OS has been fundamentally different to that seen with Windows because the PowerPC didn't have the same baggage that Intel was carrying around for ages. Apple felt the pain in the early 90s with the change from 68000 to PowerPC, but that means that they were far better equipped for the current change to 64bit. I don't see 64bit hitting Windows in a big way for another couple of years, whereas ALL (64bit CPU) Macs with Leopard can run everything in 64bit now.
