Give me a Creative Jukebox or iRiver anyday
ogg...not a pleasant format to work with imho..and not as popular as mp3 tbh...or as versitile. People who use OOG are probably not going to buy an Ipod anyway, they will go for something less mainstream, more techi..like an iRiver or something. The iPods price is now competitive - £200 direct from apple matches the Zen really. Aah yes the Zen, the player i so nearly nearly bought. Was going to get the 40gig version of it, played with a mates and realised that, ok it has alot of space for the price [fleabay has em for £170] but its heavier, bigger, bulkier than the new ipod. and compared to what i hear the ipods UI is like its pap

but i did so nearly get one =)

there are a plethora of technical reasons why mp3 is a nasty format to work with. the fixed length audio frames add silence, which makes gapless playback harder; id3v1 is woefully inadequate, and id3v2 is a horribly kludge, with track information scattered around a file willy-nilly. the codec itself has poor frequency cutoff & distortion.

vorbis, wma and aac are superior sounding codecs, with technically superior file details.

the point about ogg vorbis support is it's free. ogg hasn't got a license fee, it doesn't even have a viral GPL-style license - it's public domain. player support relies on giving a few programmers beer for a week. there are no increased costs or overheads. i use vorbis because it works with anything that doesn't have laziness involved somewhere - ut2004's built in media player supports it, i have ogg playback on my gp32, and it sounds better than mp3 (which technically carries a license) - or formats with poor non-windows support such as wma (which carries a hundred licenses), aac (license, yes it works on apple too), or rm (licenses again).

Hmm I want either a 20gb iPod, green mini iPod or the new sony NWHD1. So much choice, so little money.

However, I have the headphones ready for good use

You know how it is on the streets

I will defend my iPod (when I get it) with my life. Or an insurance policy

    Mine arrived today!!!

    It's soooo pretty.
Packaging is Apple's usual high standard.

I've got the 40gb iPod, remote and case. So far, all I've done is turn it on, but the click wheel works well, and is still touch sensitive like the scroll wheel.

    Will report back later
