do i have to point out the fallacy of "iPod Lounge" doing an iPod review? A look at iPod features, perhaps, but you can see the conclusion already: "The 4th generation iPod continues to show just why Apple is the market leader, taking an unbeatable product and adding great new features like an automated badger detector. I never liked gapless playback, battery life, codec support or proper equalisation anyway"Originally Posted by CocoPops
Dude, your obsessive hatred of the ipod is incredibly tiresome.. I have to say.
If you cant afford one, or bought some other less fashionable player.. no need to post over and over about how much you hate it (its just an mp3 player you know, not anything even vaguely important.)
Oh dear..

Jeez, take a sit down and chill out hex.
I simply posted it to let people know that a review was coming.
Some people want to see "real world" photo's for example not marketing shots, so even if they only read it for that, it's worth while.
Fine you don't agree with the iPod, you've made that clear, but to be frank, if you don't like it, shut the **** up with the constant whinging!
Sing it sister!!
I'm just interested in a completely unbiased review
(My sister wants one)

Also there's the fact that the hardware player is only half of the product. The combination of iTunes and the iPod and they way they work so well together is one of the greatest selling points of the iPod, and something that isn't matched in any other portable audio solution.
I'm mainly interested in finding out if the new battery life is anywhere near accurate

For those interested, the review is here http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_mo...d=4552_0_6_0_C
"The Good: Best value 20 and 40GB iPods released to date, with Apple’s best control scheme and extended (12 hour or more) battery life.
The Bad: Click Wheel works a bit better than it looks, new features besides battery and Click Wheel are largely trivial, still no user-replaceable battery."
I'm yet to find a site which has a decent 20Gb upwards mp3 player review roundup that has all the aspects I want to know - the ones I've found rarely give exact dimensions or a size comparison, an interface test, a battery life test and a full features roundup all in one go...especially the speed of the interface - the closest I've found to a speed test is someone comparing usb2.0 on a karma to usb 2.0 on an ipod (which was so so useful. oh so useful).Originally Posted by Stoo
other than the karma/ipod/iriver/zen what is there? is that the full choice?
I have to say I do agree with directhex in that I always laugh at these idiots who wear the iPod headphones as if they've got something special and want to show the world.
All this says to me is "I'm a ******* idiot with £200 in my pocket - please rob me".
I have an iPod but used them for a day and realised they were god awful and got some Sony EX71SL's - if you're gonna buy an iPod at least get decent headphones to listen to all that music!
/rant
Anyway... only got mine because it was very cheap and really nice to use, kinda ashamed to own one since it seems now that the majority of iPod owners are eejits!
Good to see that apple are releasing another generation without waiting for a mac expo or similar, and have improved (well, we'll wait and see) the battery life.
12 hour battery life sounds excelltn, lets just hope they are not being optimistic...Originally Posted by bertie

iPod - no thanks.
i've tried one, and tbh, they aren't that amazing. Plus the lack of OGG support turns me away from them. The main things going for them imo, is the size/weight and battery life. Main thing against them, lack of format support, price.
Give me a Creative Jukebox or iRiver anyday
The players designed for the mass market user- that where the money is. If apple can genuinely sort the battery life then that would be a worthwhile revision imo.
