they get the power from the torque.
the civic type r doesnt have traction control - in the wet you have to get into 3rd before flooring it if you dont want wheelspin
hughlunnon@yahoo.com | I have sigs turned off..
Forget BHP ppl, torque is where its at....
My car only has 286BHP, weighs 1800KG and STILL manages 14.01 second 1/4 miles due to the torque (325lb.ft from 2500RPM till redline)

The MG ZT (OK Rover 75) was designed by Rover under the command of BMW - it recently beat the 3 series in an independant survey.
Nobody's going to outsell one of their businesses to help another part.
These days they're not so much different companies as different departments of the same conglomerate!!
Different 'departments' will source their own parts - if it makes it cheaper to order parts that are the same as different model lines then they'll do it to increase profitability; they won't quality assess the different parts and allocate them to different "manufacturers" accordingly, in fact the factory that made your Golf 3dfx probably made (dare I say it) some Skodas.
The bottom line is that any profit is going to the same place be it Skoda, Seat or VW - the shareholders want to make as much profit as possible.
They may have big power figures, and go really really fast, but at the end of the day, it's still a LUpo, or a Polo - they won't go round corners properly....Originally posted by 3Dfx
So, wanna challenge a turbo charged 150Bhp Lupo? or maybe a 180Bhp Turbo charge Polo?

I'd still have em
I agree, I'll join the queue. And I'm 20bhp down and turboless, but my car does do 125 in 4th (on a race track, not on public roads I might add). Interestingly is accellerates faster from 90-100 than from 60-70, in 5th gear that is.Originally posted by Richie
I will
Mine is only normally aspirated mind you but I'll still give them a head start

3dfx, with all due respect, get a life, get a clue, and get lost. You have NO idea what you are talking about and your narrow minded statements which we keep seeing are annoying everyone.
Skodas are damn good cars, so are SEATs - poorer quality? yeah whatever.
I think you need to realises you are full of it.
If you're not changing gear you're not trying hard enough. Revs are where it's at, the sound of an engine at 7800rpm is awesome, Diesels are definiely getting better but they still sound like a diesel.Originally posted by 3Dfx
ok, but u get a 180bhp 1.8t GTI Golf and a 150bhp TDI Golf and put them at 35mph in 3rd gear and floor both of them...NO changing gear...
U watch the 150Bhp TDI destroy the Petrol 180Bhp!
Actually, has anyone tried the new Honda diesel engine in the new accord, I'm not sure if it's out yet, but it's a twin cam 16V turbo diesel with an alloy block, that at least alleviates the problem you normally get with diesels in the increased weight. That should be a very interesting drive indeed. A revvy diesel, only the japs would attempth that.

Good point chris, at the end of the day, a diesel is still a diesel. It still uses the same stuff taxis, lorries and tractors use and they aint' exactly high performance
Diesels may not be high performance, but then again, they don't need to rev really. Because of the way the power is made, it's ALL down to the torque, which is why I can be in 4th gear doing 30 through town within 20-30m from a standing start without really pushing it (in my n/a 1.9 Diesel van) it's because I know how to work the gearbox for maximum efficiency. In fact, I left a Civic for dead on the Mountain today - because he was being all lead-foot and belting down the straight bits using his superior power, and I chugged round him with the speedo nailed at 50 at the Bungalow while he was on the brakes. I didn't even have to change gear - THAT'S the advantage of diesels, and I'd have one over a petrol any day of the week that's got a 'Y' in it.

So I'm not allowed to have MY OPINION?3dfx, with all due respect, get a life, get a clue, and get lost.
If I think a Skoda, a Seat, a Vauxhall.. Ford... Ferrari or anything else is crap, then I'll say it... cos its MY OPINION.
3Dfx, just a quick point, tailor is spelt tailor, not taylor. Not a major issue, just something that's been niggling me.
