OK the S2000 is two insurance groups higher (20 vs 18) so that's understandable, still a huge difference though, and I doubt power makes a massive difference, they're the same sort of car, unless the Z4 is less powerful than I'm thinking..

Didn't cost much to add me to Coco's insurance
The RX-8 is a thirsty car and does like to be given plenty of throttle to drive well - in a similar way to the Honda , but thats where I'd say the similarities end
a 5 mile a day commute is'nt going to be fantastic for the car anyways - Have you thought about plan B - little turbodiesel for the commute ( refuel about once a year ) then something you can enjoy driving at the weekends

The s2000 is quicer than all the z4s, but not by much, unless you have the 2ltr z4.. not worth bothering with to be fair.
They dont cost that much to run in real terms..
I mean you will get over 20mpg in either of them i should think..
And unless you really are pushed for cash or do LOADS of miles then its ok.
m coupe?
You'll be getting an old one for 10k, but if its been well looked after you'll be golden. And you can pretty much guarantee you'll never see another
May aswell get an m3, cheaper.
Plus that would rape fuel so much more than any of the others, and is also group 20 as its basically got an m3 engine
I'd be amazed if they used more fuel than an rx8, and anyone who bought an m3 instead is mad. Look at it!
You can also get very good deals on insurance through specialists. I guy at work has one insured on an agreed mileage of 7500 through the BMW owners club, costs him about 800/year fully comp, hes 27 with 3 years no claims
Anyway, OP. Buy an RX8, you wont regret it in the least. Although as Moby says, buy something else (scooter?) for the commute
I still think the M Coupes look like a corsa with a stretched bonnet... only seen a couple that I really liked

I can't comment on the RX-8, never driven one but I do like the way they look and those doors and the practicallity etc. I would have it over the M Coupe anyday, for a start the M coupe was a horrible drive, drinks fuel, feels dated inside and looks like a breadvan.
Do you really need the extra seats of the RX8 though. What about a little MX5? Great fun and much cheaper to run.
MX-5 seems a little too girls car too me, I know they are not all the way hairdresser but I like the idea od something a little different, I mean RX-8s aren't that rare but anyway.
I definitley think the M Roadster is out for me, it hasn't aged well at all, even the new one doesn't look right, same for the Cayman too.
Ok what about a Toyota Celica or even and MR2 both of those are great cars. Find an older (twin headlight varient) GT4 and they are an absoloute blast and quite rare.
