my mate drives a celica gt4, a fair few engine mods pushing around 350bhp i think. its quick
they are fairly cheap to buy too.. my advice for cars like the gt4 is, find a large owners club and do a lot of reading and asking

What you wont get from an rx8 is speed they are not quick.
The m coupe is in a different class to the mazda.
I am thibking audi tt 1.8 t its the way foward.
If you buy something really cool and quick now you wont be bored of it in 4 months
RX-8:
192bhp - 7.0 to 60, -> 139mph
231bhp - 6.2 to 60, -> 146mph
TT Coupe 1.8t:
190ps - 7.2 to 60, -> 141mph
225ps - 6.4 to 60, -> 151mph
I know 0-60 and top speed are not necessarily the best measure of 'speed', but I'm not sure how you can damn the Mazda as 'not quick' and then recommend the Audi...

Um.. They are not slow. I'm pretty sure it would embarass your 306 in a straight line sprint
I would definitely go for an RX8 over a TT anyway, they are better looking, every bugger has a TT nowadays, and they have a far more girly image than an RX8 which is a rather interesting car!

Thanks for those figures...I do need that kind of speed in my life! Not sure the girlfriend does!
I think my mind is set for now unless the market for 350z changes dramatically which I doubt. As Howard said TT is everywhere and I don't like that idea, the RX-8 is something different, not wildly so. I also fancy some of this Japanese reliability and service. Anyone know what the basic stereo is like?

Looks like a bit of a bugger to replace!

The RX-8 is quick, but the TT has the plus of being made quite a bit quicker with an ECU software upgrade.. The 180 can do 210-240bhp post chipping, and the 225 will see 270-290bhp - with four wheel drive too.. The downsides are possible dash-pod failure (common fault) and it's nowhere near as good round a corner as the RX (even with serious mods to the suspension/anti-roll bars). I've seriously considered the RX8 before but i've always been holding out for a special edition with a bit more grunt (supercharged/turbo charged aka RX7?).
I'm due to drive the new S3 in a few days tho..
Or a GTV Cup ?!

306 does 0-60 in 7.4 seconds?
That would be the GTi6 then.. Of course, peugeots number is 8.5...
yeh laden car with people lol. rumour has it to make it one insurance group less..
i have mine to the weight of a rallye anyway.
Mazda's figures are probably fairly conservative as well...

the 0-60 figure isn't a particularly accurate measure of things anyways - if a car will hit 60 in 2nd that it'll have a higher 0-60 ( which is why a saxo is geared as such ) you also have to be prepared to really hurt your clutch.
something like 30-70 in gear acceleration is a better measure imo.
