    Okay here's the latest progress:

Wheel arches riveted on after cleaning with Autoglym bumper care. (Good product as it doesn't make the arches black - which is good as they're meant to be grey)

The all important Haynes Mini Tax disc holder.

Number plate, aerial on, car lowered (no longer on jacks) and ready to go!* Started first time!

Will do some polishing of the paint probably next weekend, and after doing that and viewing it outdoors I should be able to tell how well it matches the current paint

Looking forward to getting it back on the road though

    * apart from the wipers!

Got web hosting problems at the moment... not sure if you'll be able to see this, but I've put photos on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...540440&l=2922a

Window removed - paint has bubbles in, and is matt, and poor colour match...

    Rust holes

    bits removed...

Took boot off, cleaned spare wheel with kurust, and sprayed with Waxoil spray "just for fun"

    Washing up... cleaning the lights.

    Filling the rust holes.

Thanks I like that picture myself

Work continues: Filled holes have been sanded...

Running out of masking tape half way through

Masking tape and brown parcel wrap to the rescue

Several light coats of primer later... and it's time for me to sleep.

Are you doing the spraying with rattle cans? Looks like a decent finish so far, always tricky to do with cans. Take your time!

    Thanks...

Yes rattle cans ... been spending a lot of time on the boot - had a rubbish finish on it, and sanding left a load of holes where the paint had bubbled up. Should have just stripped it to start with but at least I'll know for next time I'm in a situation like this.

This is what the boot was like after some sanding - all the round bits are holes where the paints bubbled away from the bare metal, and sanding the bubbles off has left a load of holes:

Light coat of red. (the paint on the mini itself is good)

Sanded down as finish not good enough yet...

    Another coat of primer...

Sanding again to get a better finish... (I should have probably at this stage sanded it all back to bare metal)

And again... more primer... (sanding between each coat of primer)

sprayed with "Filler primer", and sanded

Sanded mini and boot again, with another coat of grey primer on the boot. (reapplied masking tape where it had come loose from the wet and dry sanding)

As it stands now, Light coat of red all over.

And now I need to buy more red spray paint. Soon

    Your doing a fantastic job.
I have read through this entire thing with a tear in my eye.
My '79 Clubman was the best car i have ever owned. It's the smell of Mini seats, the skateboard handling, and above all the noise of the A series...I'm soo jealous!!

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Well... I tried another coat of the final red... but wasn't really happy with the finish. This was about 10 days ago:

so today I sanded it all down again:

and then covered it in red primer:

primered again (this time in red) - using halfords red primer - had to change the spray nozel a number of times as it kept clogging! also primered the other side of the boot.

This finish is looking quite good (smooth) so the next time I spray it, I should be on my final couple of coats of red, and then I'll be able to start putting it back together when dry

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

    A few coats of red:

that was about 12 days ago, then I sanded an area, and t-cut to see what the finish would be like (after waiting for it to properly dry), and it looked good, so I decided to press on.

Finished the inside of the boot: (3 days ago)

So that I just had the outside of the boot and the back of the mini to spray:

Now I need to wait for it to dry properly, then I can finish it, and put it back together. I really miss driving it with it being off the road for so long
