First Direct were / are cheapest for me. Followed by Morethan who will happily offer me Third Party ONLY and nothing else

It sounds like you need to try the insurance brokers. You prob want to get a copy of that mag MaxPower and check the back ads - loads of adverts for insurance brokers such as Adrian Flux etc who specialise. I remember my first insurance was from HSBC Ireland (underwritten by some Lloyds syndicate) because like yourself I had similar quotes which were way too much or some who wouldn't insure me cause of age and car.

Did you take the earlier advice and try Admiral? They've always been head and shoulders above the rest for me. Only costs me £950 a year on my Supra. It cost me £1250 when I bought it at 21 with 1NCB.

That a mad quote for a 1.2 corsa.. is it standard and if not have you told the insurance company of any mods u may have added on urself?

For my first year i was paying £1200 on a nova 1.2, which is still loads but not £2000, that was with a broker, so i would second trying a broker out for price.

now i am with norwich union and they are the cheapest i have found but i have a few more years no claims bonus now!!

    good luck tho mate.....

Yeah I tried Admiral. I've requested a couple of quotes from Adrian Flux, will see what they come back like. If I went to a broker, would I have to own a car before they could get me any quotes? Same with ringing companies up.

    Gonna try budget now madman.

    Cheers

i assume you have tried adding your mum and you would know that this brings it down about 300 quid normally.

which magazine recommend Barclays car insurance - apparently they'll beat your renewal by £100 and give you £50 if you switch to them

although saying that they've quoted me £1312.56 !! (compared to £680 from first direct)

Its because lots of young drivers are involved in an accident in their first year of driving. Insurance companies have to pay out more for young drivers so we are less profitable to them and that means higher premiums.

oh i know why they do it, but i mean its a 1.2 corsa. hardly a skyline or something, i admit i would expect it to be abo e a grand, but my 1st car wasa fiesta 1.1 and was 1100 so alot less, and for 100 cc hardly a differnce,

A lot of young drivers crash 1.2 Corsas. A lot of 1.2 Corsas are stolen.

Not a lot of young drivers crash Skylines, etc...

I would suggest trying an unusual car, for instance something slightly bigger and oddly far eastern, like some sort of Kia or Daewoo. I wouldn't be surprised if they're a LOT cheaper to insure.
