    Angry audio

i could actually kill this thing! i had stereo input fine thismorning on AUDIO_L and AUDIO_R, soldered it up, nothing, and only EXT_L would take an input

what is wrong with this thing

decided to give up on that, surely composite is composite, yet when i load up certain apps/games i get the image flickering, what is causing this? refresh rate?

Ive finnished my csync circuit, should I need it - dunno what gfx card I will use yet... it was frustratingly difficult to make, ofr such a simple circuit... had to remake it just now which was easy. Luckly it costs almost nothing. I ordered extra parts just incase I messed mine up but I didnt need them, so there spare if anyone wants one made...

if I were wanting to run dvd programs and winamp visualisations etc on the psone screen would I be better off with just composite or svideo output and sacrificing some quality? as wouldnt any resolution changes from such programs mean the screen didn't display until back @ the windows desktop...?

Your res changes on the primary monitor wouldn't affect the LCD. You can use windowed full screen mode for winamp visualisations usually (not actually changing the res, just filling the full screen.)

As SilentDeath has said already, the only problem is the image shifting when you go into DirectX games on the primary screen.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

what sort of image quality improvement are we talking about though, 2x the quality by vga as opposed to composite?

If its the only screen there wont be any problems with going full screen.

The screen is a fixed resultion screen, 720*568 for pal versions, you will not be able to change res on this screen.

The image quality improvement is quite a lot, you can read text a lot easyer on smaller fonts and the picture is sharper.

If using two screens, move the secondry onto the left side in diplay propertys, this prevents the screens from moving when going into d3d and opengl - dvd playback usually uses directdraw so that might also shift the screen if using two monitors.

Hello all. I finally finished soldering my lcd with cat5 cable to a vga connector. I plugged the lcd into my sapphire 9800pro on the dvi port with a dvi -> vga adapter. THe lcd light turns on but the screen is black. Nothing shows up, no picture at all , just black. I then went into display properties to turn on my secondary display. Everytime i go to put a check in the "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" for the lcd and hit apply, it would go back to normal and wont let me check off extend my monitor for the lcd. This is being on a XP
Anyone know what the problem is with my PC not detecting the LCD?
Im using the psone power adapter to power the lcd. No power mods yet.

I tried booting up my system from the LCD on the VGA port not the DVI and that didnt work either. =( the screen is still black and no picture at all. If i leave the lcd plugged in for awhile, the screen starts to flicker a bit. I checked all my connection and it seems ok. I even re-soldered some of the points.

I used the the solder points from http://starfox.ucc.asn.au/carcomp/serio_lcd.htm . I also ground pin 11 and 4 on the vga to the ground on the LCD (pin 8 ) .

I've read other people who have done this mod that they added resisters etc.... Do i need that for it to detect?

    I have a NTSC LCD.

    any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks
    Laura

Ok i redid everything, but i still have the same wiring configuration. Now its finally working but not 100% though =( atleast i get image now and not just a black screen. BUT to get picture to show up on the LCD i had to boot up with the LCD on the VGA or on the DVI->VGA port. The image is just scrolling really fast, but i can see that its showing the desktop. I have the LCD on the VGA port so i plug in my regular CRT monitor on the DVI port and XP cant detect my CRT... It wont let me extent my desktop onto my CRT. Anyone know why???

I tried fixing the scrolling on the LCD but i cant get it to work. When i get to this screen http://mpro.no-ip.com/pics/lcd/layout/ps4.jpg (not my settings, just using it as an example) i put a check mark next to Composite sync and interlaced and then press add new resolution. NOw the LCD scrolls slower and picture is a little more clear, but image is split into parts. When i OK out of that screen and hit this screen http://mpro.no-ip.com/pics/lcd/layout/ps6.jpg the interlace and compsite sync doesnt have a check tick anymore. But LCD image remains the same. Once i put a check tick for both of them its scrolls really fast again, so fast that i cant even distinguish the picture anymore.
I've tried using other powerstrip settings that i've seen on other threads, but that doesnt work. What are the exact steps to adjust and get my own settings? do i start with the pixel clock? scan rate? also once i have the Horizontal scan rate put to what i want and i change the vertical scan rate it changes my horizontal.
Im using VNC from another computer to make all this adjustments.

can anyone help or provide suggestions for my pc not being able to detect both LCD and CRT at the sametime, and how to stop the LCD from scrolling =)

sorry for all the writing, but im determined to get this to work.

    Thanks
    L

Just finished this mod on a PAL LCD screen using a Matrox Mistique 2MB card that was 55p from ebay, although I had to use 5v from the psu to the DCC as the matrox doesn't seem to give it out. Thanks for the article and all the help this thread has been
Here are some pics of the finished mod and the powerstrip settings:

If you can get pics upload them to uploadit.org I will try and work out what needs to go where

Whats the actuall input voltage to the unit? I mean where the power goes into the lcd, after any power cubes or anything. Car and pc psu can supply 12v so it should be very easy if thats the case. Car will probably need regualtion which might be difficult. Iirc when the car is running the output will rise to 13-15v frm the battery, whereas when off the battery is 12v. A low-dropout regualtor would be good for this as it will turn off the regulation when on pc psu (then the voltage is too low to be regualted) , but when it is too high it will regualte it peroply.

Heres a finnished pic of mine, in my case, with rthdribl running. I still have to move the vga cable, but i need to move my watercooling first which I do in couple of weeks...
    http://server6.uploadit.org/files/kbn2k3-lcd.jpg

Also Ive noticed something with mine. Is the screen same colour at different angles? 45 degrres on mine for example, somethign ment as orange will be bl00. Doesnt matter I was just thinkiing the LCD might be the cheaper rox/coloum type not TFT... not that it really matters for such a small screen.

Another thing is mine is flickery from the timings. Has anyone managed to get theres perfect - no flicker yet? if so Ill have a go at fine tuning mine but atm I cba
