Dont worry Gordy, you'll have some extra funds your way soon!
Nick
Well I've finally found the time to do some more work on the project. I've had a delivery this week of some more aluminium along with a bumper load of switches.
Today and last night I've done some work on the main structure of the case, I have the 4 main sections cut and bent to shape.
I've also finished the thumbscrew dice, I glued them last night and they look ace. I've not taken any pics of them yet but will do so later if anyone wants to see them.
Anyway without further ado:
(Pics are all thumbnails click on them for 800x600 shots)
A small selection of switches:
The finished bottom section of the inner case:
The finished bottom piece and mobo tray inside the case, they arent bolted in place yet:
A lovely action shot of me bending the ally sections, taken by the gf:
And finally the four ally sections which make up the inner case
Things to do next are too fix the four sections together in their final places and work out how I'm going to fit them to the case itself.
I've done some good work on the project today. I've pretty much finished the inner casing. I fitted the top and bottom peices into place and fitted a strengthening stut between them so the case is sturdy. All that is left to do to it is attach it to the bottom of the case.
Piccys thumbnails as usual click on them for larger versions:
The top and bottom pieces attached to the main motherboard tray:
The strengthening support in place:
The inner case inside the bottom of the case:
The inner case inside both sections of the case
The optical drive in place
God damn it
I've just seen this on the hardocp front page

Quick update from today.
I've drilled the holes that will fix the inner case to the plastic outer shell and used four small bolts with nuts to attach them. I've also cut the rear panel to size. I've realised that the 80mm fan is going to be a squeeze. I may have to only use two dice thumbscrews at the bottom of the back panel but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
Only the one pic today:
Daily update:
I'm still trying to source the motherboard but seeing as its the same one that is in project bad apple. So I took out the board from the apple, crossed my fingers and set about installing it onto the mobo tray.
To my great delight it fitted perfectly , that was a great weight off my mind. I also worked out where I was going to place the rear fan so that I can get three dice thumbscrews in place.
Onto the pictures ( Click on them for full shots)
The mobo in place in the inner case:
Three shots of the inner case with mobo in place:
A front shot showing where the IDE cable will go:
Another update for today:
I've been working on the cd case and its been a real pain to cut to size. I've got three nasty cuts now but its done. I'm amazed how well it fits. Everything has about a 1mm leeway and I've been bang on so far .
Anyway more piccys
First the cd casing you can see where I've started to trim back the metal with tin strippers:
A couple of piccys of the cd drive and case in place
The optical drive and case on their own:
looks mint mate, btw wot do yer use to blunt the sharp edges like the CD case there?.

No I used a big old metal file to file it back. I would normally use a dremmel attachment but I can't seem to find any course sanding barrels anymore
Another update this is from last night but I've not had a chance to update the pictures till now:
I've been thinking over the wiring and I have plenty of chrome braiding and every single section of wiring is going to be covered in the stuff so it looks ace.
I've also taken some snaps of the lcd I'm using in the project, its a blue with white text MX2 lcd from Matrix Orbital. I had it for a review so its perfect for the sgi. It has inputs for controlling fans. switch inputs and temperature sensors also there is a 3 led ledbus for indicating functions. All in its the best lcd i've ever seen.
Onto the piccys (Click on them for full sized versions as usual)
A little trip to maplins resulted in this haul, the chrome braiding is from www.kustom.co.uk the other items a molex connectors, cabling, bolts, some new colours of wiring, and some three pin connectors:
First I did the switch and led cables, I have one bloo and one white 5mm leds for this project along with a couple of small switches:
The final cable looks damn fine imho:
Another post coming in a second.
A mini update:
I've not done much today as I'm a bit under the weather, but I've made the LED indicator wire much better looking with the same treatment as the previous cables.
I've had some good news on the mobo front and I should be recieving it monday woooot !
Anyway a quick couple of shots of the cable, click on the images for full sized versions

Another update for the day. I've spent the morning loading and unloading my girlfriends kit so I've not had five mins to think.
I've had a few deliveries today, first off some cables . They are both silver cables which suits my wiring theme. The first is a sata cable for my dvd drive the other is a normal ide drive for my hard disc. I couldnt decide to upgrade the hdd drive to sata at the time as all the drives are noisier than my current one so I wasn't prepared to pay all the money for little or no gain. When the drives become cheaper and quieter I will upgrade.
The next delivery was from www.kustompcs.co.uk I got a zalman cooler for the gfx card. (The last time I installed one of these I killed my gf4 so fingers crossed this time.) I also got a blootooth kit which is actually for shuttles but that doesnt mean it won't fit in my case, hehe. I've looked at the wiring diagram and it should be easy to hook up.
I also got 3 chrome led holders and my free macroon (Yummy ! )
Onto the piccys (Thumbnails with links as usual):
First off the collection of parts:
My yummy free macroon from www.kustompcs.co.uk :
The two new cables:
And finally the blootoof kit:
I've got a few bits planned for today so there will be another update later.
Well I've spent a lot more time on the modding than I thought I would today. I've finally fixed the cd rom cage into place with some bolts. It means I can now attach the top shell into place which fits a treat.
I've also done some more chroming sleeving, I've converted the LED Indicator bus to allow the leds to be connected at the front but have the circuit hidden from view. This took some time and I'm not happy with how it is at the moment but I will sort that out tommorow.
On to the piccy's click on them for full sized shots:
The led indicator rewiring:
The cd cage in place:
Its cming a long very nicely, goo job gordy. I liked the article in the mag btw. How come you get such nice stuff from kustom. Your a jammy so-and-so!
Was the macaroon good?
