Konamis cheque bounced
This is daft, i can fully understand Konami not wanting spoilers printed but all this just for cut-scene length and installation time??? Strange, i thought Konami made reasonable requests because of the intense story driven plot that is Metal Gear but if it's just them two facts alone then this is completely barmy, the average MGS fan loves cut-scenes, i do, whether there 90mins or not, (i've read that the longer cutscenes come near the end of the game which is justifiable).
As for the installation size well why the hell do they want to keep that quite?, pics have already been on the net showing the back of the game with the details and plenty of other games use install so why so secret?
They seem to be doing more damage to their name by these silly requests, we all know it's going to be a very good game, and an even better one for the fans.
Maybe we need a comment from Konami to clear things up.
But thinking about it if it was only them two requests then it cant be that bigger deal, since when do you read a review to find out the cutscene length and installation size?
You could easily write a review on the game, leaving out the story spoilers and the two requests and have a full-on review.
Quite. The only request I can understand as being reasonable would be regarding spoiler story details - IMO no other request from a publisher is reasonable and shame on them for doing that. It also completely nullifies any early reviews as we have no idea what other concessions might have been made.
seriously though. how can installing and cutscene length be such a MAJOR issue in reviewing a game? that should not affect the overal gamescore as it has nothing to do with gameplay, graphics and sound.
edit: i bet if this game was released only for the 360 with the same NDA rules about installation and cut scenes gamespot and co would not be making such a big fuss over something minor

Why did Konami make such a fuss over it then?
Well Konami have finally responded to all these review complaints and yes the reviewers are allowed to talk about the install and cut scenes (well sorta)
Exclusive: Kojima Productions Responds to MGS4 NDA ComplaintsI want to make it clear that, from today, reviewers are welcome to discuss the length of the cutscenes and install times, but we ask that they not get too specific about the cinematic times and what happens in later install sequences...
As I said, I don't love \ hate or wish failiure on Sony, Microsoft or anyone else. I'm interested as someone who has been playing video games since the ZX Spectrum.
Apart from my oft repeated claim that Nintendo make the best games, I have no bias towords any company.
The plot thickens though! The game is afoot Holmes! Etc.
So this is not 'good' news for me, but it is very interesting, Watson.
6 more days... I think I'm going to kill myself lol
I feel like a kid again in anticipation, save me from insanity!
The longest i've ever managed to sit down and play a MGS game in one sitting is about 45 mins. That was MGS Twin Snakes on the gamecube. It just does nothing for me, MGS3 was out om my ps2 within 10 minutes, avoiding snakes in a jungle in Russia was enough for me.
People seem very keen though i've taken quite a few preorders for it, but when i ask people what they are looking forward too the most about it most of the time i get the same answer, "the graphics are going to be amazing". This is the same for almost every 'big' game, which is why i feel review scores are worthless, most people dont care. Publishers will always find some rag mag thats given a game top marks to splash all over the box anyway blinding the innocent and stupid.
This is why the restrictions imposed on the reviewers is quite frankly ridiculous. A game made by a famous developer with a great heritage amongst gamers is going to have to go some to be received badly. I hear it has an innovative install system (better than watching a progress bar crawl for 20 mins anyway) wanting to keep how it works a surprise is understandable. I think konami are forgetting that it isnt in a reviewers interest to spoil the good bits of the game, if they did this their readership would soon go elsewhere.
I'll give it a go, i have all the others, heres hoping i see the light so to say. For all you fans enjoy it, its going to go out with a bang.
NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, GBA, DS, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3 60gb, XBOX, XBOX 360, Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, Neo Geo CD
innovative install system? umm maybe it installs in the background while playing the game
Not me, I'm looking forward to seeing how liquid ocelot who's controlling the five major PMC's through outer haven and snake finally battle it out, the real story behind raiden and the patriots, then there's all the other characters that are returning to have their storys tied up including meeting back up with meryl and the new foxhound
Then there are the beauty and the beast boss battles which are going to be awsome, making use of the solid eye, octocamo and the new metal gear mk11 , then unlocking all the 40 special items, including the ipod which you can use the stick to rotate the wheel through different music tracks plus finding secret tracks throughout the game.
I wonder if you actually get to use a metal gear as well????
Shame i didnt come into your shop because that's what i would of told you.
Oh yeah and the cutscene that nearly hits the 90min mark at the end of the game.
the install system seems to be a one off 8 min, then about 2 mins for each act.
nooooo
I was talking about the set with the game, soundtrack, making of and the snake figurine.
*Agreed, i stopped reading that piece of **** site long, long ago and do not value it's collective opinions one bit. The bias ther was incredible.
