Email at work today basically informing us that there wont be a hardware bundle for MGS4. So no gun metal gray ps3 for the UK it seems.

I think it's down to MGS being to story driven that konami are trying their best to stop any leakage of said story. I've been skimming the reviews until i read about this which made me read the reviews again with the knowledge there's going to be no spoilers.

Ermm....it has nothing to do with spoilers. Any review that gives out spoilers before the game is out is just going to piss readers off, nothing more.

The problem with this approach is that we have no idea what they have agreed not to mention within the review. A reviewer shouldn't have strings attached to them.

True, but then no strings attached review can easily give away plot details and spoilers, i know it's not in the reviewers best interest to do that but there be no way of stopping them.

I can understand why Konami have done this but then again i agree that you should be able to read a review without any hidden topics, as you can tell i'm in two minds whether this is an ok thing to do.

At least they are allowing reviews(kinda) rather than go down the Haze route and wait till it's on the shelves.

    Re: Metal Gear Solid 4 : 1st review - 10/10

So why haven't they simply said that sites aren't allowed to reveal spoiler story details? That wouldn't be too hard would it?

maybe because saying that the first cutscene is x minutes long is considered a spoiler. i would be pissed if i read a review telling me how long each cutscene is and when it happens. i want to be TOTALY surprised when i play this game

If you think someone telling you how long a cut scene classes as a spoiler, I suggest you lock yourself in a cupboard until the game is released.

Seriously, is it going to stop you buying the game if I told you the first cut scene was 15mins long? And what about the huge number of people who won't bother reading a review before buying it?

Common, its Konami on a power trip, nothing more. Don't kid yourself.

    Re: Metal Gear Solid 4 : 1st review - 10/10

Could someone kindly confirm the PS2 games capability of the PS3. As I understand it, the 40gig version has none, but the 60gig does.

    Also, what's this 'evolution engine'?

I might just buy the 40gig to play mgs4...since I still have my thin ps2.

40gig = none at all (other than downloading from the Playstation store)

The Ideal Copy: PS3: 60 gig or 80 gig?
    Covers it pretty well

PlayStation 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

scroll down and there is a table with all types of ps3's with all the info of backwards compatibilty, mines from the US and is/was a 60gb, it has the emotion chip so can play all ntsc ps2 games, UK and US 40gb has no backwards compatibilty, UK 60gb has software emulation (which means not all ps2 games work), US 80gb has also software emulation.

Use this website to find out if your ps2/ps1 games are compatible with the UK 60gb(quite hard to find now though)

Obvious question though, the emotion engine only works with 'US/NTSC' PS2 games?

Unfortunately my PS2 games are all PAL since I have a PAL slim PS2 at home. I'll just keep the slim PS2 and get the UK 40gig

    Cheers
    Mike.

Yes but the UK 60gb has software emulation and your find nearly all Ps2 titles work.

Also the MGS bundle is backwards compatible
