Dude, I've already said, in black and white, if I've slaged the game off on any point - any point - that turns out not to be true, I'll appologise.
I can't be any more reasonable than that.
But I'm interested, this is interesting. One of the biggest releases of the year, and the web is full of stories of review restrictions.
Now, are you telling me I can't mention that, because if I do the children on this forum will start screaming about 'u must hates sony!111!!1'
Come on now. Lets not let the lunatics take over the asylum.
no1 said you cant mention it, infact you wasnt even the one that first mentioned it here. i believe itw as Agent and did i question weather he hates sony? Nope because he came out with the news in the correct manner unlike you who appears to hate sony and/or mgs4.
Just stop mate. Stop posting. Stop talking.
You drag everyone on the forums down to your simplistic, infantile view.
Can't you find a forum where everyone else thinks like you?
Do Cbeebies have a gaming forum?
Soon you'll be reduced to 'Stewart and Microsoft sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G'
How about, you shut up about hating this, loving that, blah blah, and actually talk about the game and these stories? Yes?
That's my comment about how Kojima Productions seemed to have silenced reviewers about certain topics, the thing is this is such a big game it cant really fail so Kojima productions shouldnt worry about what reviewers write, actually playing the game yourself is going to be the best way to find out and if your a fan then your obviously going to like it.
I suppose they only thing they worry about is reviewers giving the spoilers/story away.
I'm the last person that wants this thread closed, maybe we should start a new gameplay thread so we can get down to the nitty gritty once it's out.
Well, indeed. This is a pretty big deal. Review restrictions on some 2 bit XBLA game is a story, on MGS4, thats newsworthy.
I think if we -talk- about this, or those of us that want to talk about this, and stop the 'omg u hates it!11!' stuff, there's no need to close the thread.
The whole game seems a bit shady to me.
Some reviews say - ZOMG its the bestest ever. Some say its got more holes in it than my nans tights. And she died in 1972.
Then you get stories of 90 minutes cut scenes... then stories that the stories aren't true.
Then the whole 'you can't say this or that' stuff, then stories that these claims aren't true either!
Considering most games just come out, get reviewed, end of story, this is pretty messy. I mean, Gtech - who is releasing this game, Konami or the CIA?
Anyway, before Josh arives with another genius post consisting of 'u want to punch sony in the face you big bullly!!!!' I'll go see for myself whats going on with these rumours and counter rumours.
Have fun kids.
i am yet to see a critic review this game less then 80. infact according to this site Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (ps3: 2008): Reviews only eurogamer and edge rate this a solid 80 while the rest hail it 90+. this game must be good no? cant be worse then haze
Yes, but 80, or 8\10 for this game would be a disaster.
This is in the Halo3, Mario Galaxy, GTA4 league.
9.5-9.9 or its a failure. Thats how things work for games like this. Rightly or wrongly.
S'ok though, IGN gave it a 9.9, so it must be almost perfect.
Thing is, I've been here before. Many moons ago I got a ps2 and MGS3, and after about 15 minutes of walking through the jungle, knocking bees nests to the ground and dodging snakes I turned it off and never played it again. But it is Metal Gear, and Metal Gear Solid is still one of the best games ever.
So I would buy it and play it if it were clear - its brilliant.
At the moment, with all the stories flying around, its the least clear major game release I can remember.
would u classify gow in that league with gta4 etc? because that got a 8/10 in some places also.
edit: even if it got 8/10 in some places doesnt mean its a "failure". if it DOESNT sell well enough to gain profit by teh developers then you can say its a failure. at the end of the day amount of copies sold = success. not on how good a review score is.
games like NFS etc sell well yet they get realy bad review scores. its all opinions and as long as u like the game who cares what ign etc say? we has customers should not care much on what these reviews think of it. as long as u yourself enjoy it then thats all that matters. same applies to music!
you just said you didn't like mgs3 yet that got great reviews right? what matters? your opinion or igns opinion? dont bash the game. give it a try as you may like it. 90 min cutscenes? could be better then half the movies been released in hollywood right now lol

Not from a gamers point of view.
I care if a game is good or not.
Why would I care if it sells well?
If you work for Konami, than thats something to think about, assuming the peeps on this forum don't, then balls to how many copies it sells.
Need For Speed sells well because most gamers have no taste, and wouldn't know a good game if it punched their big, fat silk cut smoking mom in the face.
I admit I didn't give it a fair chance, but it didn't deserve it.
MGS - Solid Snake swims into the base, the guards are doing their thing, the music that plays... thats one of the classic moments in gaming. Brilliant.
MGS3 - Fumbling around a jungle knocking bees nests off trees. Needlessly complicated and fiddly stuff. And the story... who even knows whats going on? Its harder to follow than a manga cartoon dubbed into Greek.
The series just didn't go in the right direction for me.
exactly. only konami would care if it sold well. in our eyes a successful game is one that we enjoy playing. agree? while in the eyes of a developer ie konami, a successful game is one that brings in a sufficient amount of profits for them
take shenmue for example. complete reverse. most reviews gave it a 9/9.5 yet that game didn't even sell 1million copies. in fact SEGA made a huge loss in it and the only reason why shenmue 3 got abandoned is because of the lack of sales in the previous title.
customer = users own experience
Developer = amount of profit made from the game
Pretty much, but review scores do matter.exactly. only konami would care if it sold well. in our eyes a successful game is one that we enjoy playing. agree?
See, in 6 months time, when little Tommy is deciding if he should get a PS3 or a 360, if he see's MGS4 reviews getting 8s, and Microsoft Monkey Tennis, or whatever, getting 9.9 he might very well go for the 360.
So, if after all the hype, MGS didn't get an average review score of 9.5 or above, it wouldn't be the system shifting, shining light that it needs to be after all this waiting and drooling.
It doesn't cease to exist once the initial rush of sales around the release date are finished.
Better reviews = more sales down the line. So I say again, if it ended up with 8s across the board, it would be a cock up.
Take Halo3. The reviews didn't really matter around launch time, because the hype sold the units. Now though, the hype has gone away, and people wanting to know what its about will read reviews and see for themselves.
Review scores and sensible opinions slowly become more important as hype stops selling units.
