I'm on my 3rd.
First was a new Xenon Premium which lasted around 4/5 months before RROD, so took it back to Gamestation and traded it for a new Zephyr Elite which again RROD'd after 4 months, so took it back again and had it replaced with a new Falcon Elite, which so far has been ok...
Have always used them horizontal with lots of space around the unit and I can't fault Gamestation as their service has been great.
on my second, Never used to turn on first go and used show 1 light now and then. also RROD once or twice but restarting fixed it. just got on with it for a while. First year warranty was nearly out so I took it to hmv to replace :]
Any and all electrical components can fail, and that includes Jasper 360s.
Hopefully the Jasper revision will bring the 360 into line with the current models of the Wii and PS3 - they can fail, but rarely, and not often enough for it to be a consideration.
All previous models of the 360 have had RROD and E74 fail rates high enough for the average user to expect to have to send it for repair during the lifetime of the console, and high enough to consider buying a PS3 instead.
How many people who own both consoles will get Street Fighter IV for the PS3, to lessen the chances of not being able to play due to hardware failure? How many people buying a console to play Street Fighter IV will get a PS3 for the same reason?
Obviously Microsoft need to close this gap, and that is what the Jasper will address.

Agreed, the ps3 doesn't have much going for it except for better reliability. Still, MS have a good warranty system and it's actually a lot quicker for repair/replace now - people often get their consoles back within the week and you get a 1 month Xbox Live card, too. No more than a slight annoyance now.
I've been through three, the first two broke within a month of getting them
If anyone is interested in the Xbox 360 revision codenames: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=901401 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...t_of_revisions
Mine broke recently, just out of warranty, and MS replaced within 8 days for free.
Ideally I'd have prefered it not breaking in the first place but I can't fault their repair service. And I now own, what I assume to be, a Jasper revision Xbox rather than the release model that I bought.
It's probably an Opus. Does it have an HDMI port? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...t_of_revisions
The PS3 is not "alive and kicking" solely due to the 360's faulty hardware though. RROD has little to no influence on the purchasing decisions of the mass market, because for the most part, they don’t even know about the issue. A casual gamer won’t read up about possible hardware faults on tech sites and then decide to purchase a PS3 instead.
From the mass market, casual gamer perspective, PS3 and 360 are essentially offering the same sort of thing, with price being the overriding factor influencing their purchasing decision.
I've just gone onto my 2nd one after just over 2yrs worth of use. My old one works now and again, but it has the graphics fault.
what are you talking about? the rrod was in newspapers and in watchdog tv. anyone with half a brain cell that likes playing games knows about the rrod.
you dont have to read forums to know how bad the build quality is on the thing. it was all over the news.
yea they are the same in price so why would you bother buying a ps3 that cost nearly double when you can buy the 360 assuming like you said, dont know nothing about the rrod?
That, and nearly any ps3 fanboys throw it up when you say you have a 360.
