I had my disk tray get stuck from time to time on a previous console, I had to press eject then push and release the tray to open it.
You cant seriously attribute the PS3's success to the fact that its main rival has reliability problems
Faulty hardware and resultant poor reputation for reliabilty aside, the overiding factor for a casual gamer who is looking at the two systems, which are offering pretty much the same package (games/online etc), is price.

Regardless of whether it's been on the news or the TV, the majority of the xbox buying public have very little or no knowledge of the RROD.
Look at it like this, If you are a parent and you child wants a gaming console, you walk into GAME or any other high street retailer, in there you will see a PS3 and a 360. A quick thumb through the games will tell you that the same games come out on both consoles, at least to the greater part and then you wonder why you are asked to fork out an £100 more for the PS3. Making you choice very simple indeed.
Even some people with some knowledge of the RROD would still rather take the risk of buying a 360 because it is so much cheaper and deal with the RROD when they get to it. That's why the 360 out sold the PS3 during the Xmas period in sales by 2-1.
I've got nothing against Sony or the PS brand, I've had a PS1 and PS2, but there is nothing on the PS3 that makes it a machine worth having for me at the moment.

One of the reasons why I bought a PS3 is incase my 360 RROD's (also PS3 has a few different games exclusives and BluRay) My 360 does crash occasionally when playing graphic intensive games, mine tends to do it on GRAW 2 more than anything else. I do tend to get a feeling everytime I turn my 360 on, is it going to happen or not sort of thing.
Currently on my 2nd 360 which has the chipset that came out christmas before last (Falcon I think it is with the HDMI on it) I keep it out of sunlight and low to the floor in the hopes it won't get to hot and die on me.
Any number of reasons...
Brand recognition, perceived technical superiority, personal preference, sales advice, specifically requested as a gift... And the list goes on.
Sony would still sell lots of systems even if the 360 was the benchmark for reliability. It has sold more consoles in Europe. PS3 isn't without its share of problems either. I hope that you don't experience any, especially after all the RROD put downs. Wouldn't want you choking on that humble pie
I can see it now... OMG if the PS3 was more reliaballs, the 360 wood be dead!!!11
2nd Xbox 360 now, my 1st one had the RROD not to mention it was way to loud.
I bought the elite model and find it quieter than my 1st premium model. Which was a relief as I mainly play game nighttime?
ps3 is far from perfect but far more reliable. not many have gone through 2 dead ps3's. the same cant be said about the 360 and if you want proof. just read this thread and probably 2/3 of people who posted about how many times teh rrod has messed up there 360, your talking at around 2 minimum. i wished the mods could add a poll to it.
i disagree that the ps3 will sell more. not everyone is a fanboy you know. take AMD cpu's for example. Intel are crushing them right now and even though AMD are not dead and buried, i think that AMD is not selling well at the moment.
I've never had a RROD through 7 consoles, instead the drives on 4 have all failed on me. I also own a PS3 that's been replaced as its drive has failed.
Only got the PS3 for Little Big Planet, every other cross platform game I've always bought for the 360.
Housemate is on his 3rd in under 2 years!
Bit of a joke from a company like MS to be honest, and it's pretty much the main reason I've not bought a 360!
1 dead premium
2 dead cores
1st Elite is going strong (knocks wood)
You disagree that the PS3 would sell more? I dont think I said that it would . Maybe you misconstrued some of my posts?
Im looking at this from two perspectives here. Your entitled to an opinion but dont ignore the other view. Unreliable 360 hardware contributes to PS3 sales with buyers weary of RROD problems and/or reputation for reliability.
All I was saying is that PS3 sales cannot be attributed entirely to its main rivals unreliable product. Some sales? Definately, and probably a good many but it is not the only reason. Even ff the 360 was 100% reliable, the PS3 would not be "dead and buried"
Fanboys dont come into it for me. I bought all three systems and have no interest in 'console wars'
