In development and driver validation terms, a couple of weeks *is* late access to the code! Is this used on the new Tomb Raider? If someone wants to buy me a copy I'll test it out on my 7750

They said they got it days before the game was released.

    Edit!!

So,AMD got it the same time as Nvidia.

Can't see those pictures, but i imagine AMD did get it earlier as they had the posters weeks in advance with special-sauce effect in TR.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

AMD is reducing the price of some of its CPUs:

The Richland based A4-4000 series will start shipping in April.

I thought the A4 was meant to be Kabini, or does that naming only come into play when we have Kaveri too?

Actually,it does not mention that the A4-4000 is Richland based,so you might be right.

    The latest SC2 expansion tested:

    http://gamegpu.ru/images/stories/Tes...sc2%20proz.png

As expected the Intel CPUs,are ahead, but the improvements of the newer AMD CPUs over the previous ones are massive.

TH,saw something similar with the latest WoW expansion too.

    Edit!!

They seem to get much higher framerates with all the CPUs during the beta:

    http://gamegpu.ru/images/stories/Tes...sc2%20proz.png

I wonder if it is a different area they tested??

Assuming you're comparing those 2 graphs, rather than something in the article they're from. One's ye olde Wings of Liberty on Ultra Quality, the second is the new expansion (beta) at very high quality. I guess that's why the beta's getting better framerates - lowered quality settings.

Both are Heart of the Swarm, its just that the review website forgot to mark the graph in the final review!!

That's great to see amd competing there, they dont have to be top but to be not too far off while still offering good frame rates is encouraging

This article just popped up at Anandtech, essentially confirms the concerns we had about using FRAPS to measure stutter. Interesting article IMO: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6857/a...-roadmap-fraps

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

What I found interesting in that AT article is the repeated mention that Windows is not an RTOS. Which is obvious of course, but that article should be required reading for anyone who jumps into the console hardware threads boasting about how much better their PC is...

Not only is Windows not a real-time OS, DirectX really does add lots of layers and the way games have to be designed to run on variably performing PCs really adds to latency etc.

There's another point of course: Windows is hardly optimal for gaming. In fact AFAIK there's never been a RT desktop OS. Certainly none of the Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...rating_systems) entries jump out at me.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Linux can run real-time, though generally that is turned off as in a desktop OS you want throughput more than guaranteed latency, and ISTR some PC hardware like old IDE drives can stall the system and mess things up so you have to be careful on what you put in the machine.

John Carmack at Id Software has certainly ranted in the past about how awful Windows is compared to Linux for things like network latency.

As for consoles, I presume with the XBox you get low spec hardware *and* windows running on top so worst of both worlds?
