    Those are my thoughts exactly, I'm not holding out hope but it sure would be nice to pick up a cheapish 16+ core end of line CPU in a few years time.

    My Guess is sticking the 3d V cache on die makes more memory bandwidth less important. i.e. no need for a new Socket with DDR5

    It isn't just about signalling rates. DDR5 splits the dimm into two memory channels making it better suited to higher thread count workloads. More cache is always nice though.
